Sitting within the leafy grounds of the owners’ period property and only a stroll from the island’s oldest inn, this stunning residence impresses on every level. Leave cars on the driveway and explore the village of Whitwell at your leisure. For longer walks, join the coastal path at Woody Bay or stroll around Ventnor (3.5 miles), where there’s a sand and shingle beach, an appetite-whetting selection of seafront restaurants and a vibrant town centre with artisan cafes, antiques emporiums and boutiques. Must-see sites nearby include Ventnor Botanic Garden and the UK’s oldest family theme park, Blackgang Chine (also 3.5 miles). Travel north to Osborne House (12.5 miles), Queen Victoria’s much-loved holiday hideaway. The county town of Newport sits at the top of the River Medina and is well worth a visit, it’s also the island’s principal shopping destination.

The village of Whitwell is home to a 700-year-old church and a close-knit community. An order of nuns once occupied an imposing stone-built property here, and it’s within the grounds of that 18th-century dwelling that you’ll find this impeccably presented, detached holiday residence. Step into the welcoming entrance hall to find a gorgeous, open-plan living space with an on-trend pastel colour palette and all the comforts of home. Stretch out on a choice of contemporary seating to watch TV or warm your toes with the modern wood burner. Bi-fold doors extend your living space onto the enclosed private terrace. At the opposite end of the room, the chic kitchen has all the essentials for fuss-free self-catering, while the conveniently close dining suite features bench-style seating and elbow space for six to eat in comfort. A ground-floor cloakroom offers convenience for all, and for those who prefer one-level living, there’s a beautiful super-king-size bedroom with its own TV and en-suite shower room. Upstairs, there's a choice of two further bedrooms – a king-size room and a twin room – each with its own TV, plus a blissful bathroom with a roll-top bath and a separate shower.

Enjoy a breath of fresh country air as you unwind on your private terrace. Choose from either the sofa-style seating, the outdoor dining furniture or – for the ultimate in laid-back leisure – the luxury hot tub. There’s also a bike store and parking for two cars.

A wonderful cottage on a lovely island. The hosts could not have been more welcoming- we loved the hamper left for us. The cottage is wonderfully equipped, and the hosts were on hand immediately following an unexpected power cut. We all enjoyed the hot tub and spotted the resident red squirrel several times.

The cottage has everything you need (and more!) for an enjoyable & relaxing break. The bedrooms are very comfortable & spacious. The living areas are bright yet cozy. Very friendly hosts & the hot tub is a bonus!

The only regret we have is that we didnt book for two weeks instead of one. We had the perfect holiday, the house is so beautiful, great location and the welcome hamper is very generous.

Red Squirrel Cottage was really lovely and set in peaceful surroundings. The layout was perfect for everyone who stayed and the downstairs bedroom was a big plus. It was decorated to a high standard and was fully equipped with everything that we needed (especially the kitchen). The owners provided an excellent welcome pack, which was really appreciRead moreated. We would definitely stay again. Hide
