Property code: OC-S30706

Nestled in the rugged landscape of Dartmoor National Park, this charming granite cottage sits peacefully at the end of a picturesque row of thatched cottages, with a historic ford and clapper bridge running across the road. Walkers will delight in the wealth of trails around them, including the coast-to-coast Two Moor Way, which passes the property and offers dramatic vistas through moorland, ancient villages and dramatic tors. Steeped in folklore, the pleasant village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor is only 2.5 miles away, offering a couple of cosy pubs, interesting shops and traditional cafes. For more local charm and places to eat and shop, the market town of Ashburton is just 6 miles away. Visit the famed beauty spot and imposing granite rocks at Haytor (5 miles), where you can enjoy spectacular views over Dartmoor. For less countryside and more coastline, South Devon’s vibrant shoreline is only 20 miles away, where popular destinations include Teignmouth, Shaldon and Dawlish – keen walkers should uncover the South West Coast Path to discover these towns on foot.

Before stepping into this iconic, listed cottage, take a moment to appreciate its façade of traditional stone, hanging flower baskets and a thatched roof, which have appeared on book covers, postcards, and even chocolate bar wrappers! Head inside and find that the countryside charm continues in the form of exposed stone walls, wooden beams and a crackling wood burner. The social heart of the property is the open-plan lounge/diner. Here, gather in the glow of the wood burner as you sink into the Chesterfield sofas and flick on the Smart TV. When it’s time to eat, lay the wooden dining table behind the sofa and step through the barn door that leads to the delightful and well-equipped kitchen. Here, find all you need to cook up a Devonshire feast while enjoying the verdant views through the window. Enjoy the chef’s work back in the lounge/diner, or alfresco style out in the garden when the weather is kind. Completing the ground floor is a handy utility space and a well-appointed family bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC. At the end of each busy day away, head upstairs and find two sumptuous bedrooms nestled under the eaves of the house. Choose from a master king-size bedroom and an inviting double room, both of which ooze countryside charm.

Outside, a beautifully kept, enclosed and split-level garden offers a haven for relaxation. Gather at the gravelled patio area for an evening tipple at the bench seating, which sits under a handy parasol. Further into the garden, uncover a lawned area and flower beds peppered with wildflowers. Guests can also make use of on-street parking for one car.

Please note: No charging of EV cars or electric bikes due to insurance limitations.

We really enjoyed our stay at Splash cottage it was very comfortable, well equipped and our dogs loved their walks in the nearby woodland. The cottage is in an excellent location for exploring the Moors, Tors and local historic villages. We would love to return at some point.

A cute and charming cottage in the middle of Dartmoor ideal for a chilled getaway with access to fabulous walks over the moors right from the front door. The lovely sunny garden is also a great spot for watching and listening to the Birdsong

We loved staying at Splash Cottage and felt very much at home. In fact, we have already booked to come again in the spring! The cottage was so well equipped that we had everything we needed. It is situated perfectly for walking on the Moor, and one of our favourites was from the back garden up beside the river.

Splash cottage is a beautiful cottage in an idyllic setting. We spent a week walking and exploring Dartmoor, which the cottage is well located for. The cottage is dog friendly and we welcomed the provision of a dog bed, towel and bowls. The garden was also safe for our Basset Hound but there is a small gap behind the shed, which a smaller dog may bRead moree able to squeeze through. The cottage is well equipped. The downstairs bathroom maybe a challenge at night for some. We can recommend the Rugglestone Inn and the Old Inn in Widdecombe in the moor, we had good meals at both. Ashburton is a lovely town, 5 miles from the cottage, where we did our food shopping. It has numerous pubs restaurants and cafes also. Hide
