This is a charming cottage for five conveniently located in the pretty village of Braithwaite and offers families and groups of friends a peaceful Cumbrian escape in the Lake District. Dating back to the 17th century, the cottage has recently been renovated to provide every modern comfort for your holiday while keeping many of the original features. Braithwaite is a great place for a holiday with plenty to see and do. The cottage is nestled at the foot of the Whinlatter Pass which has magnificent views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding Lakeland fells. Spend a day at the Whinlatter forest center, with activities for children, walking and mountain bike trails as well as a café, picnic areas and a go-ape adventure area. Derwent Water Marina is 2 miles away, where you can stroll along the lakeshore, rent a boat or jump aboard a cruise to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding fells and woodlands. Walk or cycle the 2 ½ miles into the bustling market town of Keswick, famous for its historic theatre and cinema. Braithwaite is home to plenty of scenic walks and is within easy reach of Newlands Pass to Buttermere and Crummock Water. The area is excellent for walking, touring, fishing and sailing. Stock up on supplies at the local village shop or enjoy an evening at one of the three local pubs.

The cottage itself is built of Lakeland stone with a slated roof and dates to the 1600s. It has been modernized for your comfort while keeping many of the original features. Relax after a long walk in the living room in front of the wood burner with a good book or film. Gather around the table in the dining room to plan the next day’s adventures (looking out for the original meat hooks in the ceiling from its early times as a worker’s cottage). The country-style kitchen (one step up from the dining room) is well equipped and there is a boot rack and washer-dryer under the original cottage style staircase. Upstairs there are three quiet bedrooms to retire to after a busy day: one king-size, one en-suite double and one twin. The bright en-suite and twin bedrooms have exposed original local stonework and raised ceilings. There is a main family bathroom and an ensuite with a rain shower.

Outside, accessed via a set of stone steps, is an enclosed lawned garden to relax in and look out for the resident pheasant. Please note that the lawn is uneven. There is private parking outside of the cottage for one car and alternative parking nearby for a second one.
