Lambings is a three bedroom cottage, which is one of five converted holiday barns on this beautiful site, and sits within the stunning Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of the River Alde. The location is unique and truly idyllic being situated just moments away from the waters edge and the gorgeous sandy riverside shores. The riverside at Iken is something special, at low tide sandy shores are exposed and are perfect for paddling, sandcastle buildings, and picnics whilst seal-spotting! For walkers, there are endless footpaths to explore (including the gorgeous circular riverside walk which will take you past Iken Church and to Snape Maltings). For the cyclists, tracks and quiet roads in this picturesque area, and there’s secure bike storage at the property too. The historic village of Snape is just 2 miles and has several good pubs offering bar meals. Snape Maltings is a popular destination, with shops and galleries showcasing local craft and produce, cafes and restaurants, and a strikingly beautiful concert hall. If the river is tempting you in, head for Iken Canoe – its less than 0.5 miles from the property, where you can rent a Canadian canoe and paddle the peaceful stretch of water spotting riverside wildlife as you go.

The bright, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is a perfect, central living space for a family group. The lounge area has a comfortable sofa and armchairs gathered around a wood burner-effect gas fire, a TV and a DVD – just right for relaxing after a busy day. There’s also a solid wood dining table and chairs seating four, and a modern, well-equipped kitchen. Underfloor heating and handsome exposed beams make this a particularly appealing space. Three cosy bedrooms – one king-size and two singles – and a spacious bathroom with a shower over the bath complete the accommodation.

Outside, guests have access to a private patio area with a table and chairs, which has delightful views over the leafy surrounding countryside. Shop: 2 miles Pub: 2 miles.

Iken is a reputed base of Boudica and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall.

Wonderful location right by the river. Lovely walks and views. Lambings was perfect for my elderly mother to stay in, being all on one level. Very well designed and converted agricultural building with all the facilities we needed. Really quiet, but handy for Snape and Aldeburgh.
