On a quiet country lane, Rose Barn is a detached and private two-storey cottage in the scenic very quiet hamlet of Southover, near Dorchester. In the heart of Dorset’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from Rose Barn’s front door you can enjoy miles of footpaths, or bike along National Cycle Route 26. Wander down to the bridge over the River Frome – you may see our local otter family or a kingfisher. Whether you’re looking for long cliff walks or relaxing beach days, you can explore the famous Jurassic Coast, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby Dorchester has plenty to offer, including excellent museums. Local attractions include country houses: the superb Athelhampton (11 miles) and Mapperton (11.8 miles) and popular towns of Bridport (15 miles) and Beaminster (12 miles).
Entering into the Barn, there is a hallway to hang coats and stow boots and a handy utility cupboard with a Miele washing machine. Passing the property’s bathroom, beyond is the kitchen. There are a couple of steps between the kitchen and the lounge/diner, but the space is cosy and compact, ensuring you're always close enough to chat. The space-saving drop-leaf dining table can be expanded when it’s time to eat, or you can take meals to the sofa and enjoy watching the Smart TV, with the wood burner gently heating the space around you. From here, a small staircase leads up to a mezzanine-level bedroom. Furnished with a king-size bed, this room is inviting when day turns to night. Tucked beneath the eaves, you’ll find limited head height, but that only adds to the charm and appeal of the space.
Soak up the fresh, crisp air of rural Dorset as you step outside to enjoy the courtyard garden. This enclosed, private space is furnished with outdoor seating, perfect for when the sun shines. There is a private off-road parking space for one car at this property.
