This handsome stone dwelling sits at the heart of West Burton, a Lower Wensleydale village famously associated with the artist J.M.W. Turner, who sketched its waterfall more than 200 years ago. Full of character, West Burton is in excellent walking country, with Aysgarth Falls less than 2 miles north and the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west. Hawes, home of Wensleydale Cheese, is a must-see while you’re here. So too is the market town of Leyburn, much-loved for its independent shops, traditional pubs and first-class eateries along with the renowned fine art auctioneers, Tennants. Head to the main square on Fridays and sample the best of the region's produce at the weekly farmers’ market. For effortless sightseeing take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway heritage line – at Scruton volunteers in Victorian costume guide visitors around the station and describe life there more than a century ago.

Located along a quiet lane just moments from the village green, this gorgeous holiday home charms with a wealth of period features and high-end furnishings. Step through the front door and you’re welcomed by a traditionally styled lounge, with a wooden floor, a beamed ceiling and a striking inglenook fireplace. Light the wood burner for toasty toes and added ambience as you unwind after a busy day outdoors; the Smart TV will provide home-from-home entertainment and dual-aspect windows afford views of the fells as you relax on your choice of sofa. Partially glazed double doors lead into the adjacent kitchen/diner, where exposed brickwork and a feature fireplace complement the country-style cabinets and dining suite. When it’s time to retire, the two blissful bedrooms are located on the first floor, both richly furnished and featuring luxury mattresses along with bathrobes and slippers. Choose from a super-king-sized bedroom with a feature cast iron fireplace and spectacular fell views, or a twin room with dual-aspect windows and built-in wardrobes. The sleek bathroom comes with a rainforest shower-head and Molton Brown products for a luxury hotel feel.

Steps lead up to a private, enclosed garden with an inviting pergola and dining area. Take a seat on the bench within the covered cove for breathtaking views of unspoilt starry skies. There’s parking for two cars plus an EV charger on the gated driveway and you’ll find a handy outside tap – perfect for rinsing the mud off your walking boots – in the rear courtyard.

This is the most beautiful well equipped cottage. The shower was fantastic as were the beds and the log burner. The thought that has gone into this cottage is a credit to the couple who own the property. Bonus , beautiful gardens.

An enjoy able stay. Good base for walks from the doorstep and further afield. Weather very good, so lots of wildlife to be seen and heard - curlew, hares and tawny owls. Brilliant night skies. What an absolutely lovely, characterful cottage! This is an excellent location for exploring The Dales with stunning walks right from the doorstep and a short drive to Leyburn, Hawes and Richmond. The kitchen is extremely well equipped - I don't think we've come across better (we do lots of cottage stays!), and the beds were comfortable and extremeRead morely cosy, even in the chilly March weather we had. We liked the nice touches of luxury toiletries and the welcome pack, and the EV charger turned out to be a boom in our new electric car! Hide
