Located about 2 miles from the small village of Woodchurch, this delightful, detached house is a wonderful retreat for couples or a small family and ideal for keen walkers with many local footpaths straight from the doorstep. Right next door is Boldshaves Garden, which opens regularly for visitors, whilst the area offers two local vineyards within 0.8 miles of the cottage, Woodchurch Wine Estate and Wayfarer Wines where you can take a self-guided tour of the vineyards. This is the Garden of England, and numerous other vineyards are also within easy reach, including Biddenden, 8 miles, and Gusbourne, 3 miles. Visit Tenterden, 4 miles away, for some retail therapy, or hop on the heritage train and travel through beautiful Wealden countryside to Bodiam and its castle. Magnificent Dungeness is 17miles away with its big skies and famed for Derek Jarmans’ Prospect Cottage and the RHDR Railway, and the picturesque town of Rye is 12 miles away, a must-visit for its historic buildings and fascinating shops.
Built around the 16th century, this Grade II-listed cottage boasts period features throughout, including rugged beams, tiled floors and exposed brickwork. The cosy lounge is the heart of the home, with comfortable seating gathered around a huge fireplace housing a wood burner. Throw a log on in the cooler months and enjoy the flickering flames and warm glow. The kitchen is fully equipped for holiday cooking, including a microwave, and has lovely views of the garden. On the other side of the lounge you’ll find the dining room, with a wooden table and chairs, plus a sofa which makes a tempting spot for curling up with a book. The family bathroom is also on the ground floor, and features a free-standing, roll-top bath with a hand-held shower attachment. Spot the hidden staircase – behind a door in the dining room – which is cottage-style with a turn. This takes you up to the two bedrooms, a king-size and a double, both full of atmosphere, with sloping ceilings and beautiful wooden beds. Completing the interior is a study, with space for two people to set up a laptop and catch up with emails if necessary.
The outside space is extensive and impressive, and includes private parking for two cars as well as a large lawn and plenty of mature trees and shrubs. There’s a beautiful but open, unfenced pond. For drinks and meals in the sunshine and under twinkling stars, set up at the table on the patio. Please note that the outside area isn't enclosed (unfenced).
