Escape from it all in an idyllic stone barn, reached by a 2-mile accessible drive along a gated farm track. Sleeping four guests, this tranquil retreat is perfect for a family or couples seeking peace and quiet. The barn sits in the foothills of the Black Mountains, with far-reaching views and a host of wonderful paths to explore. Running through the gardens is the long-distance Brecon Beacons Way which runs through the magnificent Brecon Beacons National Park. Shop for local produce from independent shops in delightful market towns on the River Usk such as Crickhowell, (4 miles) and lively Abergavenny, (12 miles), with its splendid Victorian market hall. In colourful Brecon (12 miles), take a peaceful boat trip along the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal or enjoy a gentle walk or bike ride along the towpath. Pack a wetsuit for a swim and watersports in scenic Llangorse Lake (7 miles) and browse the bookshops in picturesque Hay-on-Wye (15 miles).

Enter this captivating hideaway taking the stepped pathway across the patio and into the rear porch, with seating and storage for boots and coats. It opens into a light, airy, open-plan living space beneath a vaulted ceiling with beams and roof lights. Spacious and thoughtfully planned, it houses a neat kitchen, a rustic dining table with contrasting contemporary chairs and a cosy lounge area, with comfortable seating before a TV and wood burner. The interior is charmingly furnished throughout, with colours and vintage furniture items that enhance its simple country style. Together with a family bathroom, there are two bedrooms: a small twin with standard single beds, and a splendid king-size, from where sleepers can wake up to breathtaking views across the National Park to Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales.

Outside, drink in superb views from the delightful, elevated courtyard garden, with outside bistro furniture and a pizza oven. The Brecon Beacons are a designated dark sky reserve, so switch off the lights on cloudless nights and see stars shine more brightly. There is private parking for 2 cars.

We were lucky to arrive on a perfect winter afternoon. The barn's backdrop is a hillside that was catching the afternoon sun, and the valley was filled with clouds, making a cloud inversion arrival the perfect start to our week! The route to the barn may look intimidating but we managed it no problem throughout a week that included some cold wet moRead morernings in my wifes 2 wheel drive mini. The location is stunning with numerous walks from the door and the full expanse of the Brecon Beacons within easy reach. Copious amounts of wood for the woodburner, but in reality the barn is so well insulated that we used it more for effect than needing it for warmth, despite the temp dropping to -5 ' during our stay. Cozy bedlinen got my wifes approval and everything worked as it should. 10 out of 10 for everything from us . We will be back ! Hide
