Our stay in Dorset was reasonable, but this was due to the places we visited and despite the accommodation at Reflections, not because of it. When entering the property, the first thing you immediately notice is the musty, damp smell, which pervades the entire property to the extent that even clothes we didnt wear during our stay required launderiRead moreng upon our return home. The living accommodation itself, in terms of size, is ok although, despite being advertised as sleeps 4, it is only really big enough for 2. The small kitchen (which has no dishwasher to be fair, this isnt contradicted by the listing, but is easily missed when booking) opens into the dining area, then through into the lounge. The seating in the lounge is certainly past its prime an elderly 2-seater settee which looks like it has come out of a skip (which we had to clean as it was covered in dust bunnies/webs, not sure what they were), and 2 armchairs which, bizarrely, didnt have seat cushions, an issue disguised by some strategically placed blankets. If this was my home, I would be too embarrassed to have guests, let alone let the property to paying customers. The door in the lounge opens to a tired decking area and the small garden, with a good view of the sea, which is not far away. The property includes numerous signs advising guests not to use harsh cleaning chemicals, due to the septic tank shared with the other cottages, which is understandable. However, the cleaner appears to have interpreted this warning as do not clean the toilet, as it was pretty awful surely if chemicals cant be used, it could be cleaned manually? Despite being advertised as Beach within easy reach and Beach 0.5 miles, the beach is actually on the other side of an 8-mile-long lagoon, so easy reach actually means a 4-mile walk or a 15-minute drive to Abbotsbury (unless you happen to have brought a boat with you) not the easy access which is, quite disingenuously, suggested by the listing. The weather during our stay was changeable. Unfortunately, during the wet days we didnt have the option of relaxing at the cottage partly due to the issues described above and partly due to the ongoing work in the adjoining cottage, with much drilling and hammering. We realise this is outside our renters control but this, along with the neighbours large, unfriendly dog (which parked itself against the door to Reflections), did detract from our stay. It appears that the property only receives a cursory clean between guests, which is frankly nowhere near enough. To summarise, the property is dusty, musty, smelly, grubby, tired and poorly maintained. It may have been acceptable a number of years ago, but it now desperately needs maintenance, especially in comparison with other cottages in the row. We usually study a holiday lets visitor book in the hope of some insight into local attractions and eateries. Reflections doesnt seem to have a visitor book and I think we now understand why. I have since found a previous review of the property (dated 27/12/25) stating that the cottage is not kept to a good enough standard to rent. We have sent the owners a detailed account of our observations we wish we had heeded this warning and can only assume that this customers list at least partly matched our own. For the cottage to still be as we found it 5 months after this review is, frankly, unforgivable hence our approach not being as discreet as the previous reviewer. It seems only fair to list the positive aspects of the property: the location, the sea view and the local wildlife (hares, pheasants, partridges, skylarks, deer). You will note that none of these relate directly to the property itself. We chose to leave a day early, as my wifes allergies were being triggered by the damp conditions. We were happy to leave. The location of the property is absolutely stunning. It was so peaceful and just what we needed. There were also towns at a reasonable and accessible distance. The location of this cottage is stunning with beautiful clear views of chesil beach. The cottage itself is clearly a well loved family holiday hone and it should stay that way, not kept to a good enough standard to rent. We have sent the owners a detailed account of our observations so hopefully they will be addressed for future renters

If youre looking for accommodation off the beaten track with sea views this place certainly tickets all the boxes! A beautiful, cosy cottage in a fantastic location. Beds were extremely comfortable, good facilities. The track is very uneven down to the property, so do consider this when deciding what vehicle/footwear to bring!

Beautiful location. Reasonably comfortable but cleaning needs improving. No welcome basket, no washing up liquid and just one toilet roll is not very welcoming. Some dirty crockery.
