Situated in an idyllic Devonshire river valley with countryside views of the nearby meadows and farm fields, this attractive, dog-friendly holiday cottage is a superb choice for couples and small families. The property is situated on a 50-acre working farm accessed via a narrow, rustic lane. The wider area is perfect for country strolls and bike rides. Adventure awaits to the north at the Exmoor National Park (15 miles) with its vast empty plains, woodlands, heaths, and wild animals. A bit further afield, and to the south of the cottage is the Dartmoor National Park (27 miles) with trails galore to uncover. Enjoy a few days at the seaside; popular resorts such as Westward Ho! (12 miles), Saunton (13.5 miles), Woolacombe (18 miles), and Ilfracombe (19 miles) all provide golden beaches, amusement arcades, and interesting places to eat. For an authentic slice of Devon life, riverside, and shopping opportunities, head into the local town hubs of Barnstaple (6 miles), Bideford (8 miles), and South Molton (12 miles).

On arrival in the entrance hall, you will encounter the spacious living area that embraces an open-plan design. There is a lounge area with ample seating for all guests that centres around a Smart TV and pebble-effect electric fire; why not watch a movie or idle away some rest time reading a book? Close by is the contemporary kitchen area, which is fully equipped with all you will need to prepare and enjoy some lovely meals together. There is a dining table too. In addition to the living area, upstairs, you will find two restful bedrooms, one contains a king-size and the other a super-king zip-n-link (can be made into a twin on request). The master bedroom has a Smart TV, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower-over-the-bath and a WC; the other bedroom has an en-suite shower room with WC.

Stepping outside, you will find a courtyard garden with outdoor furniture and a charcoal BBQ. Private hot tub perfect for use in all weathers due to its unique enclosure. This garden is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee and some relaxation with your dog. There is also a second enclosed courtyard style garden, also off of the living area

We had a lovely stay at Austen Cottage. Sam greeted us warmly on our arrival and showed us round. Cottage is very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Hot tub was lovely after a day of walking the coast. Dogs were also thought of with beds, blankets, bowls and treats. Delicious scones with cream and jam left for our arrival. Sam met us on arrival and showed us around. The welcoming tray of delicious scones with all the trimmings to the extra towels and thought obviously put into furnishing the cottage showed Sam and Steve's commitment to providing a lovely holiday retreat even the dogs were not forgotten with blankets and treats. Beautiful place home from home. Meeting Sam was a pleasure she took us inside and was very informative whilst providing us with fresh coffee, tea, scones, jam and clotted cream to die for. The location is so beautiful and quiet so you need to drive to get supplies. Garage that sells a fair amount about 10 minutes away but a Tescos about 15/20 away.Read more Not many things open in Feb but found a lovely pub out on our drives called The Thatch in Croyde.. open all day super food with daily specials. Seems most things will open up around mid March. We just wanted a peaceful break and we certainly had that. We had the most amazing time at Austen Cottage. Everything was just perfect. We had one of our best Christmas breaks ever here. The property had everything we could have asked for and more. Nice cottage. Large hot tub. Extremely quiet remote location. Great field for dogs. Fully enclosed garden. Would recommend you bring essentials, eg. Bread, butter, eggs as not supplied and nothing for breakfast in morning. Cream tea is provided upon arrival.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely property. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The location was perfect peaceful, with a beautiful walk through the fields (part of the owners land), ideal for enjoying time outdoors with the dogs. We couldnt have asked for more and would happily stay again!

I would thoroughly recommend Austen Cottage! We had a lovely stay when in the area for the Barnstaple Marathon. The location is peaceful and remote and the cottage beautiful and well equipped with a fantastic bonus of the hot tub! Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Wow, what a place Sam and Steve have created to share. From the welcome tray of delicious fresh scones with all the trimmings to the little touches of luxury around the cottage, the hosts have clearly put a lot of thought into the property and beyond. The hot tub hut is a fab addition to the cottage and was really fun to shelter from the raRead morein in there. We also loved the walk theyve created to run the dog and his treats, bedding and bowls that Sam provides as part of the stay. This cottage meant our three night escape was exactly what we needed - a place that felt like home without all the odd jobs to think about. Austen Cottage is a beautifully presented property and the owners have added in some extra touches to make sure you have everything you need for a perfect holiday. We loved relaxing in the hot tub after spending the days exploring the area. The location is perfect for day trips to many locations and activities in North Devon. As stated there are sRead moreingle track lanes to reach the property but don't let this deter you. It's a relatively short distance and the lanes are very quiet, we only encountered one other car during our whole week. We hade a very comfortable and relaxing week at Austen cottage, it really is one of those places that is just great to come back to after a day out. Theres plenty of space, the beds are comfy, its very clean and the outside space is perfect for watching the house martins (swifts?) of an evening. The lanes were definitely made in Devon but we were able to walk and run them without needing to jump in the hedgerows too often. Austen Cottage was a very well presented and spacious cottage. Beds and sofa were very comfortable. The hot tub was a bonus and very well thought out. This cottage is catered to hiring up to 2 dogs with bedding, covers, feeding and drinking bowl plus a outside hose if your dogs get dirty. They have a large area to walk your dogs or play with some sRead morepectacular views of the Devonshire countryside. The lanes for a few miles leading to the cottage are only 1 vehicle width so caution is needed. You are welcomed with a nice cream tea on arrival. Some lovely places to visit with Sauton Sands a must to take your dogs as this is the only beach that welcomes dogs all year round. The owners are on site any queries they are at hand. Hide

Fantastic cottage and grounds. Well equipped and spotlessly clean throughout. We just couldnt fault anything at all. So beautifully decorated, furnished and finished it most definitely felt like a place of relaxation and rest. Very well though out by the owners with the guests comfort in mind. The outside space was excellent for both us and our dogRead moregy. All securely fenced and a brilliant covered area for the hot tub. The farm is beautiful and the owners provided a map of the grounds so we could enjoy the land and views. The location was great for exploring along the north coast with excellent amenities just 10 minutes away in a car. Absolutely wonderful cottage. One of the very few we would come back too. Like a home from home. Its remote (ish) set in a beautiful Devon rural farming landscape. The lanes are made in Devon. Narrow. This took nothing away from our stay. Our hosts were welcoming and ready to help if needed. The cottage is bright and welcoming. The cream tea deliciRead moreous. Upstairs the bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms clean and functional. Outside space was nice but alas not used too much due to the English late summer. Close to lovely countryside walks. We had a lovely week away at Austens Cottage. We had a warm welcome from the owners, Sam and Steve, and a freshly baked cream team was waiting for us. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable. Jessie our dog loved her own bed, bowls, treats and the suggested walk on the farm by the river. Wed love to come back!

We booked just 3 days before arrival and received all of the arrival details including a phone call from the owners which were clear and helpful. On arrival we were met with a warm welcome and a well needed plate of scones and cream. The cottage is beautiful and very well laid out. As a family with 2 teenage boys we all had enough space and we haRead mored everything we needed there including an en suite in each of the bedrooms which were really useful too. The cottage was cosy in the evenings and has privacy in the courtyard area for alfresco dining/ breakfast etc. Location was good and allowed easy access to lots of areas to explore further afield on the local road networks.
