Property code: OC-N29755

This delightful stone cottage nestles in the heart of Swanage on Dorset’s sun-soaked Isle of Purbeck and offers fantastic access to the seaside resort’s bustling centre, sandy beaches, and family-friendly attractions. Most of Swanage is hilly, but this property benefits from level access into the heart of town where Swanage Beach (300 metres), seaside amusements, and a wealth of cafes, restaurants and pubs await. Walkers will delight in the trails that lead out of town and into rural Dorset, while the South West Coast Path is just 300 metres away and offers scenic trails towards Studland Bay (3.5 miles) in one direction and Peveril Point (1 mile) in the other. Swanage Railway Station is 200 metres away, and a scenic train journey leads to the National Trust’s dramatic Corfe Castle (5.5 miles). Other nearby attractions include the walled market town of Wareham, The Tank Museum, and Monkey World (all within 16 miles).

Sleeping up to six guests across three floors, this welcoming cottage is built from local Purbeck stone and offers sumptuous accommodation to extended families and friends with the dogs in tow. Step inside and notice the original cottage features like exposed stone walls and wooden flooring that combine with modern, homely comforts. Kick-off sandals and walking boots in the hallway before turning right into the social heart of the home, the open-plan lounge/diner, where more exposed stone adds character to the space. Unwind in the comfortable seating here, flicking on the Smart TV to catch up on your favourite shows, or perching at the coffee table with your holiday read. When stomachs start to rumble, lay the dining table in this room and walk through to the well-appointed kitchen where you’ll find all the space and amenities needed to whip up feasts for your loved ones, as well as a separate utility room. When day turns to night, walk up the cottage-style stairs where three peaceful bedrooms are spread across the first and second floors. On the first floor, choose from a welcoming double bedroom, and a king-size room with a peaceful workspace for any mid-holiday emails. A well-appointed family bathroom and separate shower room complete this floor. Upstairs, on the second floor, awaits a delightful king-size bedroom set under the eaves. Exposed stone walls, wooden beams and a large skylight combine to offer a rustic, airy place for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Outside, to the rear of the cottage, is a compact but characterful courtyard garden where you can relax with a morning brew or evening tipple. Find a charcoal BBQ and outdoor furniture here too, making al fresco meals a breeze.

This property review comes in two halves - on the positive side the property is decorating really nicely and looks the part. And the location is fantastic and the house is in a nice quiet area even though it's very close to central Swanage and the main roads. However - and this is the second half - much less positive: some of the real basics were bRead moreroken or not working as well as required. The central heating - one bedroom wouldn't not turn down even with the thermostat - the only way to get the temperature down in that room was to tuen off the heating and that meant everyone else was too cold. The toilet is broken and the handle needs replacing. The clothes horse is broken and needs replacing. And finally it's very off - if not completely unhygienic to have a microwave in a room with a toilet and I also thought it was law to have two doors between a kitchen and toilet but perhaps not. So overall we would never go back. We did contact the letting agent several times to sort these problems and there was a very helpful maintenance man but the customer service was poor. The property was also freezing on arrival and the battery in the central heating thermostat needed replacing. I asked for extra bedding as we were uncomfortably cold and was told no. We wont be booking again. Hide

The property itself is very spacious and well equipped. The pillows are very thin, but you are provided with at least four on the beds, so not a real issue. The towels were soft, and there were heated towel racks in each bathroom. The property was easy to locate, had parking available outside the cottage and was in a very convenient location. UnRead morefortunately, there was a collection of alcohol bottles piled by the front door upon our arrival. We entered the cottage and found brown matter smeared and dried on the toilet seat of the upstairs toilet, very little toilet roll, windows left opened and the microwave was in the same room with the downstairs toilet. The place was truly pet friendly; I even found some dog bowls and toys in one of the cupboards. If not for the hygiene issues, I would have definitely recommended the property. It was really very spacious, well equipped, had comfortable beds and in a great location. Apart from the disgusting toilet that I had to clean and the wine bottles cluttered outside the door. The rest of the property appeared to be clean. Hide

Beautiful cottage, very spacious, comfortable and well situated for the shops, beach, railway and buses. We had to park in the long stay car park as there werent spaces for the 2 cars, this cost 50 each car for the week.

Perfect location to spend a good time in Swanage. Although beach and city center are in walking distance (5 Min) it is very quite. We parked the car on the hill towards Durlston where it es is easier to get a free space but that is not a problem as you do not really need a car in Swanage very often (we took Breezer Buses, Train or boat instead).

This is a beautiful house, it has everything you need and a lovely courtyard garden which gets the sun all day. The location is great for walking into Swanage Town and to the Beach. There is no parking at the property so be prepared to move the car to a local car park once you've unloaded.
