The town is best known for its family friendly beaches, the main beach is a long sandy stretch that is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. Walk along the 1.8-mile-long promenade savouring the views or enjoy fish & chips and Devonshire cream tea in the towns wide variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes. There is also a quieter river beach, where you can catch the small passenger ferry across to the attractive unspoilt village of Shaldon, with its fishing harbour, zoo and Smugglers’ Tunnel. From Teignmouth you can walk sections of the South West coastal path, jump on the train to the cathedral city of Exeter, go further south to enjoy the English Riviera or explore Dartmoor National Park which is only 15 miles inland and includes a number of National Trust properties.
