Located within the grounds of a working farm, this former cart barn is now a charming cottage offering views of the sea and rolling countryside and is a warm and comfortable base to return to after exploring the nearby coastal villages. Walk to the nearest coastline from the doorstep (550 metres) and watch over the nature reserve from the bird hide. Drive to Ross Farm (4.5 miles) and then walk 1.5 miles to Ross Back Sands for another unspoiled beach and spectacular views of Bamburgh and Lindisfarne Castles. Cross the causeway to explore Holy Island (9.5 miles) and Lindisfarne Priory, discover historic Berwick-upon-Tweed (12 miles), and Bamburgh Castle, (8 miles), book a boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses (12 miles), and visit magnificent Alnwick Castle and Gardens (18.5 miles).

Three stone steps lead down to the front door of this welcoming semi-detached property and into the hallway. You will find the utility/boot room where you can hang your coats and sit on the bench to take off your walking boots. There is also a useful sink to wash off any muddy bits. The two king-size bedrooms are located on the ground floor, each with a wall-to-wall window overlooking the patio garden and open hanging space for your clothes. One of the bedrooms has a glazed door with access to the patio outside. The contemporary bathroom completes the ground floor. Upstairs on the first floor is the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with dual aspect windows, a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, and an open-tread spiral staircase that leads to the mezzanine floor. The lounge has a comfortable sofa and two easy chairs for resting weary legs and unwinding after your day’s adventures, and there is a TV with Amazon Firestick and DVD, books, films and games for entertainment. The kitchen has a breakfast bar with two stools where you can sit with your morning coffee, and you will find everything you need to prepare a range of meals. Sit together at the table for relaxing dinners, play a game or plan your daily activities. The chill-out area on the mezzanine floor has a couple of bean bags and a small sofa to relax on and the sea views from the two large Velux skylights take in the Holy Island Causeway. This is a lovely place to sit with the binoculars and a drink to enjoy the changing light across the causeway and the dark, starry sky in the evenings.

Outside, to the rear of the property, there is an enclosed, courtyard-style patio with garden furniture accessible via one of the bedrooms. This can be a wonderful suntrap where you can sit with a drink whilst listening to delightful birdsong.

A lovely unique property with the bedrooms, both with comfy beds, downstairs, living area & kitchen on the 2nd floor & the added bonus of a mezzanine snug room with great views towards Lindisfarne. There are binoculars in a basket under the small table which we only found on our last day! A lovely walk to the coast where the bird watching hide is. Read moreWish we'd seen the binoculars earlier but still a lovely peaceful view without. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything thought about. The living area is comfortable & we got used to the smell of the oil burning boiler. Did open the window a few times though. The TV reception wasn't great but we had bought a box set to watch using the DVD & there are books & games to use. The area was perfect for visiting Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Amble,Alnwick & Warkworth & we drove to Edinburgh one day, hour 15 mins to park & ride & took the train into the city (15 mins). All in all, a lovely peaceful 5-day break. Hide

We've just returned from a fabulous week at Corn Cottage. The remote location was exactly as we hoped; despite there being a few other properties around, we didn't find this intrusive. The accommodation was comfortable and equipment provided ensured we didn't need for anything. The welcome pack was greatly appreciated and it was reassuring to knRead moreow that the owners could be contacted should the need arise (but it didn't). We were very impressed with the quality of the property as a whole and plan to return for another stay. Hide

Lovely cottage, gorgeous inside with great views from the loft. The cottage isnt completely isolated which was nice, and only a short walk to a fantastic view of lindisfarne. Came with some small welcome gifts too which we were pleasantly surprised by. The owners were fast to respond to any of our questions. The signal was off and on- it was okay oRead moren our phones, but at times the telly struggled. They provide plenty of movies though and board games. Our favourite part was definitely the location, you need a car, but its only a short drive up to lindisfarne and Berwick and south to Bamburgh. Perfectly in the middle. If you like wildlife too we saw lots on the lane around the cottage! Lots of hares and birds. Hide

This is a well furnished and fitted out property, the bedrooms are a good size and the beds were especially comfortable. It is in a very peaceful location, well off the main road (the road to it is a bit lumpy, if you have a low car) and the only noises we heard were birds and the occasional passing train in the distance. Being able to walk down toRead more the coast straight from the cottage was lovely, and seeing many hares in the fields and even in the farmyard was an absolute treat. It has a well equipped kitchen, and a useful porch cum utility room with plenty of space for coats and shoes or boots. The 'crows nest' loft gave views right across to Holy Island, and we had beautiful sunsets on long June evenings (the spiral staircase up to it might be an problem for anyone with mobility issues) We found it to be a great base for exploring the fantastic Northumberland Coast; Budle bay, Bamburgh, the Farne Islands and Holy Island, also inland to Chillingham Castle, with it's famous wild, white cattle. Nothing is perfect though, and there were a couple of niggles: it is a converted old cart shed, and as is often the case with that type of building, there is a whiff of damp-proofing about the place when you first walk in, although you do get used to it. What we didn't get used to was the very strong smell of kerosene from the oil boiler in the airing cupboard at the top of the stairs, and had to leave windows open all the time in the lounge and loft to help clear it. That was OK in the fine weather we had but would have been a problem in cold or wet weather. The TV was a bit of a struggle to operate due to a problematic remote control, and even when we did get it working, we found all the channels listed wanted you to set up an account, as nothing was set up to play. We ended up watching some stuff on BBC iplayer and also Youtube, (a previous guest had created an account, thanks Pete P, whoever you are..) although, luckily, we were out and about an awful lot enjoying Northumberland. A lovely, well equipped cottage in a perfect location. It was immaculately clean and we had everything we needed. The little extras and the welcome treats were very much appreciated. Wandering down the lane to the water's edge to watch wading birds in the evening was a lovely end to several of our days. We were blessed with great weather too, which always helps. Would definitely book again if we were visiting the same area. Hide

Corn cottage is one of the nicest I have stayed in anywhere. The cottage itself is extraordinary because of its three levelsd; the chill-out area on the mezzanine is a lovely place to sit, read a book, watch the stars or the sunset and look out to sea. This in itself would be enough but the location, close to the sea, with views of Bamburgh and Lindisfarne, makes it very special. We had cause to contact the owners a couple of times for minor queries and they were responsive and helpful. One of us accidentally left something of personal value behind on leaving and this was later returned to us quickly and without fuss. So basically everything was excellent and then some, and we would love to visit again. Hide

Corn Cottage is a beautiful cottage in a lovely location, ideally suited to visit the main attractions in the area. The cottage is on a quiet "farmyard" and arrival instructions were clear and concise. The welcome pack left by the owners was much appreciated! The cottage is "upside" down with the lounge on the upper floor and the bedrooms downstairRead mores. The porch was invaluable for wet clothes and footwear! A lovely courtyard can be reached from the main bedroom and there are stunning views from the upstairs reading area, overlooking the Wetlands of the National Park and Holy Island. The cottage is very cosy and nicely decorated and the beds are very comfortable. We liked the open plan design with the lounge, kitchen and dining area being together. There was a good supply of books, games and DVDs for those inclement days! The cottage is down a country lane so it was very peaceful, away from the main road. We felt that a car was necessary to get from place to place but I'm sure there was public transport available if you walked back up to the main road. It was a great base for exploring the local area and to return each evening, after a busy touristy day, and watch the sunset and listen to the birds was very satisfying. The one issue we had ,when the electrics tripped ,was easily sorted with a phone call to the owner who responded very quickly. We are hoping to return again in the future. Hide
