Escape to the idyllic village of Martinstown, less than 4 miles from Dorset’s county town, Dorchester, yet with a rural feel and peaceful ambience. At the heart of the village is St. Martins church, which dates back to Norman times and you’ll also find a pub, plus a deli and grocery store. This pretty spot is a great base for walking and is also ideally placed for touring. Within 17 miles are some of the county’s best-loved attractions including West Bay, Burton Bradstock, charming Abbotsbury with its sub-tropical gardens and swannery, the traditional seaside town of Weymouth, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Dorchester itself has a plethora of eateries, two cinemas and several museums to explore.

Take the central door into a welcoming dining hall, with space for boots and coats, as well as a generous table, perfect for leisurely family meals. To the left of this space and up a couple of steps is a galley-style kitchen, presented with care in a country style. Crossing the dining room will take you to the inviting lounge, which is complete with an inglenook fireplace with wood burner, Smart TV and a view of the churchyard to the rear. Just off this room is a charming single bedroom, and cottage-style stairs rise from the lounge to the first floor. First you will come to the contemporary shower room. Along the hallway is a pretty double bedroom, decorated in calming tones and with its own en-suite bathroom. Completing the accommodation is a characterful triple room, with a super-king-size bed and a single bed.

Take one of the three doors to the garden, which lies to the front of the cottage. This idyllic spot is enclosed by a low stone wall topped with hazel hurdles and is furnished with a table and chairs so you can enjoy relaxed afternoons together or perhaps a sundowner.

We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was welcoming and very comfortable and the location was excellent. We headed west to Lyme Regis on one day and east to Arne/Wareham on another day - lots to visit on the way etc. The local pub was excellent, the landlord very welcoming and it was great to support the village post office which is very close bRead morey. There is a lot of footpath walking locally and the log fire makes it a great off season destination. Many thanks for great few days. Hide

This place was exactly as advertised, and we had a brilliant holiday. The cottage is lovely and the kitchen has everything you need. The village has good stuff in walking distance and there is lots to do only a short car drive away.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Church Cottage. Despite atrocious February downpours in the first week, the cottage was cosy, dry and very comfortable. It is nicely fitted out and well equipped. We appreciated the welcoming touches, including for our dog. Martinstown is only a 10 minute drive from Dorchester and well located for sight-seeing inRead more Southern Dorset, but is a quiet and relaxed village with a handy shop/post office and pub. Once the weather improved we enjoyed trips to Abbotsbury, Bridport, Burton Bradstock, RSPB Arne and Studland Bay. As well as bridle paths around the village, the Black Down and Maiden Castle were also nearby and good for dog walks. Our thanks to the owner who organised a mid-stay clean for us and was very helpful. Hide
