  • Sympathetically renovated with both contemporary and traditional features
  • A peaceful holiday base for exploring not only Norfolk, but also the stunning private grounds
Property code: OC-W28992

A peaceful location in the small village of Crimplesham, ideally placed for discovering all that Norfolk has to offer. The apartment is just 2 miles from the historic market town of Downham Market, where there are excellent amenities and you can jump on the train to King’s Lynn, which is connected to London King’s Cross, or Ely and visit the stunning cathedral. For those looking for a day at the beach, Hunstanton is 25 miles away and makes for a great day out with traditional arcades, beautiful esplanade gardens, boat trips to see seals, the Sea Life Centre and more. Visit the Watatunga Wildlife Reserve (6 miles) and experience a Norfolk safari in which the animals roam free among 170 acres of countryside. Welney Wetland Centre (11 miles), Denver Windmill (4 miles) for cream teas, and the King’s Estate at Sandringham (17 miles), are all worth a visit.

Records indicate a house existed on this site as far back as 1040, however the current house was completed in 1881 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse, one of the most successful British architects of the 19th century. Offering cosy and light-filled accommodation for up to four guests, the sympathetically updated apartment provides a welcoming atmosphere with vibrant decor and soft furnishings. The entrance to this property leads you upstairs from the driveway to the first floor. On entering the apartment, you are welcomed into a wide corridor. The first door leads to the lounge with a large, comfortable sofa and furniture reminiscent of the hall’s rich history. There are two bedrooms, both in keeping with the traditional styling, one with a striking antique double bed and the other with twin beds. One of the twin beds is a four-poster with soft, sheer canopies; you can’t help but feel like royalty! The kitchen/diner is light and well-equipped, a lovely place to enjoy early breakfasts or sociable evening meals. The family bathroom completes the apartment.

The hall stands within 5 acres of beautiful grounds which guests can enjoy. The private woodland is a haven for wildlife and the lake provides just the spot to relax on a blanket in the warmer months. There is a patio area with garden furniture (shared with other properties on site) and large lawned gardens. Venture further through the grounds and you’ll find the ruins of an old folly dating back to the 10th century, said to be the finest folly in Norfolk.

Clean and comfortable, shame the local pub had closed down. Close to Downham Market for shopping and coffee.

What an incredible place. The apartment is part of a Victorian mansion and is furnished to match the era giving it interest and atmosphere. The kitchen and bathroom are well appointed and everything was clean. There was full freedom to explore the grounds complete with folly and lake. Having expressed interest in the building and its history we werRead moree privileged to be given a fascinating tour by Nicola, the lovely, friendly caretaker. All in all it was one of the most memorable places we have stayed and was a wonderful place to spend a peaceful, relaxing week. We loved it. Hide

We very much enjoyed staying at Crimplesham Hall. Of all the "cottages" where we have ever stayed, it is the grandest, with the largest "garden" and the only place with its own folly in the grounds. In the fields immediately beyond the grounds, several times, we saw deer grazing. Although not situated close to the sea; Snettisham Beach, say, is onlRead morey a half hour drive away; within the same radius there are several other places of interest: Ely with its cathedral, King's Lynn, National Trust Oxburgh Hall, Sandringham, Denver Sluice, Wisbech, Swaffham, Downham Market with its pretty little clock tower and Tesco, and ten minutes by car from Crimplesham Hall is a Lidl. The apartment we stayed in (Waterhouse), was tastefully and comfortably furnished, with plenty of hot water and good wi-fi. Unusually and generously, toiletries were provided, as were starter beverages. During our stay we met, several times, delightful and charming Nicola who manages the apartments, and were lucky enough to meet charming and delightful Yasmin who owns the Hall and who told us of its history and the adventures she had had since buying it. You may gather that we are enthusiastic about Crimplesham Hall. Our only criticism is that it would have been nice to have had a plate rack for the washing up. We'll bring our own next time. Hide

The holiday suites in this old manor are amazing. It felt like living the Downton abbey lifestyle. The grounds with the folly and lake are interesting to explore. We can't thank the caretaker Nicky enough for her friendly welcome and caring nature.

Waterhouse at Crimplesham Hall was very nice, we were shown in by the caretaker Ms Nicola Martin who was very polite and was able to answer any questions that we had. Waterhouse it's self was nicely laid out with a very nice lounge 2 bedrooms bath/shower room and a well equipped kitchen. The manor grounds are very nice and quiet with lots of birdRead mores, squirrels and other fluffy things. Unfortunately due to a family bereavement we had to leave early but would we come back again? yes we will be booking again once we have got over our loss. Hide

When we arrived we were met by Nicola, the housekeeper, who was very pleasant and warmly welcomed us. The house itself was lovely, very old and gradually being restored. The location is very good for sightseeing around north Norfolk.
