Escape the everyday with a break on the breathtaking Loughros Peninsula, a narrow strip of land reaching out towards the North Atlantic with stunning views of waterfalls, caves and white sands. A patchwork of pastures and pretty white-painted properties line the quiet lanes here, leading in one direction to the dramatic point that overlooks Loughros Beg Bay and in the other to Ardara, a designated Heritage Town with welcoming inns, appetite-whetting eateries and a busy calendar of festivals throughout the year. Sitting on the Owentocker River, Ardara is also a well-known centre for the manufacture of Donegal Tweed. To the south, Killybegs (14.5 miles) is Ireland’s largest fishing port and the embarkation point for boat trips along the Donegal coastline. Don’t miss the wealth of natural beauty on your doorstep: at Maghera Beach opposite the Loughros Peninsula (a drive of less than 10 miles) low tide reveals some incredible caves, while the nearby Assaranca Waterfall is especially impressive after heavy rain.
There’s much to see and do, but above all this is a holiday retreat in which you can unwind and enjoy together-time with family or friends and four-pawed pals. The bungalow sits in its own grounds little more than 200 metres from the water’s edge, and welcomes guests into a traditionally furnished lounge complete with wood burner that will cast a warm glow over convivial evening gatherings. Share cooking duties and enjoy lively conversations around the table in the kitchen/diner, then when it’s time to retire you can choose from three bedrooms, each with a double bed so six can sleep comfortably. A family-style bathroom completes the convenience for all.
Enjoy the scenery and fresh coastal air from the garden – there’s outdoor seating and a BBQ so you can cook up an al fresco feast and watch the sun set.
