Perched just off the Devonshire coastline, this stylish conversion commands an unrivalled position overlooking the river Taw, with a plethora of North Devon attractions close by. The home nestles between the well-renowned coastal village of Instow with its charming beachside bistros, and the market town of Barnstaple, where you will find a multitude of welcoming shops and pubs along with a cinema, an array of eateries, and even a theatre. Surfers, sunbathers and sandcastle architects alike can enjoy the golden sands and turquoise waters of Croyde (12.5 miles), Saunton Sands (10 miles) or Westward Ho! (8.5 miles), where you can again feed your taste buds with a choice of fine dining options to suit all. Keen hikers amongst you will certainly not be disappointed by taking the short coast-to-countryside trip over to Exmoor National Park (12 miles), where you can enjoy woodland walks amongst the Exmoor ponies and red deer, whilst listening to all the variations of chirping birds overhead.

This sociable room boasts a contemporary aesthetic, with a cosy sofa and a Smart TV, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy your favourite films after a day trekking the Devon coast and country. Completing the downstairs is the shower room, fitted with a rainfall shower and WC. Heading up the mezzanine-style staircase will bring you up to the bedroom, where guests are treated to a super-king-size bed, plenty of clothing storage and of course those commanding waterside views over the river Taw.

Making your way out to the front of the home guests are treated to an incredibly spacious secure enclosed garden with outdoor seating to enjoy those al-fresco breakfasts. Perfect for peace of mind with four-pawed friends. The headline act is clear however with your own wood-fired hot tub allowing you to soak into the water whilst catching those Devon sunsets with your favourite tipple. If that’s not enough, guests also have the added luxury of touring down into the orchard on those fresher days. Perfect to stroll with your morning cuppa and plan the day’s events ahead.

The cottage had everything you needed and was a delight. Cheryl left some lovely welcome bits for us on our arrival, which was very much appreciated. It had a fabulous enclosed garden with a table and chairs, sun loungers and a great wood fired hot tub, which Cheryl kindly lit every day for us. Unfortunately the weather was very mixed, so I only Read moregot to go in it once, but it was so lovely. The location was also great to get to scenic places within half an hour at the most. The views not far from the cottage were lovely and the orchid area is ideal as an extra space to let dogs off for a stroll. I would highly recommend Cheryl as a fabulous host and the cottage was great for couples and your fury family friends. Hide

A perfect cottage for a idyllic getaway. The views are outstanding, the cottage is fantastic, comfortable and has everything you need and more. The host Chery went above and beyond to welcome us to the cottage with fresh scones, flowers and a wood fired hot tub ready to relax in (which she then set ready every morning). Easy to book and sufficient instructions sent prior to stay to communicate with the owner. Lots of nice little touches make this place an adorable stay. Close to the tarka trail / south west coast path. We had an amazing stay and will be sure to be back

This was probably the best place we have stayed in.It was very well equipped with everything we needed.The garden was very secure so we did not need to worry about our dogs going off on an adventure on there own.The hot tub was very well used and Cheryl was a brilliant host and very friendly.Will definitely re book soon.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Tack Room. The Tack Room is very cosy and has lots of great amenities including the Hot tub, indoor fire and lots more. Cheryl was very helpful offering recommendations and showing us how everything worked making our time stress free. Would highly recommend and will definitely be staying again!

Cheryl was a perfect host and had thought of everything . Lovely scones cream and fizz . Everything is comfortable and well equipped. Its a perfect place to use as a base for the Tarka trail and is not far from local pubs if you dont want to cook . Lovely to have the hot tub and the enclosed garden is perfect for a dog .

We had a superb week in a real home from home. No detail had been overlooked. Everything from the furnishings to the towels and robes was of the highest spec. The hot tub was wonderful. We have had a wonderful week at the Tack Room, Cheryl has thought of literally everything you need and is a lovely host. Location to the coastal path the Tarka Trail is minutes away and Fremmington Quay is over the field. This is a great base to explore North Devon and we will definitely be coming back

We had a lovely stay in a cottage we couldn't fault. An excellent host and the cottage was very tastefully appointed with nothing you might need missing. An extremely comfortable and well equipped cottage in a fantastic location. Cheryl really has thought of everything from the scones and clotted cream (delicious) to the extremely comfortable queen size bed. All that you need for a fabulously relaxing break.

This cottage is fantastic & the host made sure that we enjoyed our stay. The cottage was spotlessly clean & well appointed. The hot tub was brilliant little extra too. It is in close proximity to The Tarka Trail with a bike hire shop within walking distance & only a 5 -10 minute drive from major supermarkets (depending on traffic). The property is off the beaten track, so you get peace and tranquility but also near enough to the main road to explore Devon. You step out of the property and are already on walks with your dog. Absolutely marvellous and highly recommend. So much so that I didnt want to leave.

We were impressed with the standard of finish and presentation of the property. If a quiet rural location is desired then Penhill Tack Room is perfect. Cheryl is a lovely lady, very helpful and a mine of information about whats going on and where to eat in the area and further afield.

Where to start? Penhill Tack Room is in a stunning location. If you are looking for a quiet and tranquil holiday as we were, this hits the mark. It is also very close to shops, pubs and amenities. The great thing is that you feel like you're out in the countryside. Cheryl, our host, was fantastic and was on hand for any questions we may have. She even set the hot tub daily so all we needed to do was light it. All in all this was a lovely holiday for us and our dog Rufus. We were very lucky to have great weather and a lovely place to stay. We look forward to visiting again and would fully recommend.
