This is a newly-listed delightful family-friendly property located in the bustling fishing village of Staithes on the stunning North Yorkshire coast with its colourful cottages, cosy cafes, and art galleries – a long time magnet for artists who come to paint the quaint fisherman’s cottages and the beautiful harbour. People of all ages will enjoy exploring the sandy beach and rock pools. The property was owned for a time by the artist Laura Johnson, later titled Dame Laura Knight. Further afield you can visit Whitby with its historic Abbey and many bars and restaurants. Why not pop into the popular pub on the waterfront for lunch or dinner, or perhaps fish and chips at the waterfront café. For keen walkers, head inland to the wonderful North York Moors National Park.

Once inside the property, you will notice the many original features. The comfortable and stylish living room has a cosy wood burner and is a great place to curl up and enjoy your favourite show on the TV or make plans for the next day’s exploring. The kitchen, with all modern facilities, has a dining table and chairs, great for sharing meals, and an original cast iron oven (not in use). On the first floor there is a double bedroom and a large family bathroom with the original feature fireplace still in place. On the second floor you will find the second double bedroom with views across the village.

To the rear of the property, there is a small courtyard with seating and here you will also find the separate utility/outbuilding with a washer/dryer and WC. Close by there are several grassy locations with benches to sit and gaze out to sea – as indeed did Captain James Cook who worked as an apprentice in the grocers shop as a very young man.

The log burner is decorative and not for use - they dont tell you that until you arrive and read it in the information pack. There is no DVD player, despite what the listing claims. And the shower water pressure is little more than a trickle. The cottage itself is comfortable and well furnished and laid out. The kitchen is well equipped and the weRead morelcome bottle and biscuits was a nice touch. We stay in Staithes twice a year and this seems a reliable option for future visits - but not until the log burner is fixed. Thank you for your feedback, we have spoken to the owner who confirms that the 'do not use' sign refers to the Victorian cooking range in the kitchen and not the log burner in the lounge. Hide

Loved Ebor House and had a WONDERFUL week. Well furnished, well equipped and warm. Sooo relaxing! Loved the association with Laura Knight (especially as I am writing a biography of her husband!): could see Laura and Sis running up and down the stairs! Staithes, like the cottage's owners, was very welcoming. Really appreciated the delicious biscuitsRead more they left for us (they didn't last long!) Totally recommend Ebor House and hope to return! Lovely cottage in a lovely location. The view across Staithes a few metres from outside the front door is picturesque. The Old Village Harbour, cafes, pubs, museum, galleries and shops are only a very short walk from Ebor House. The Co-op in the newer part of Staithes is only a 10 minute walk from Ebor House and The Cleveland Way (well signposted) Read moreruns through Staithes. We had a very enjoyable holiday exploring Staithes and the surrounding area by foot. We used the local shops, pubs and cafes which were all great and the Cod and Lobster near the harbour has 4 vegetarian meal options on the menu (3 of these options are vegan). Excellent. Hide

The cottage is lovely and in a great location. The bedrooms are a great size with big comfortable beds. Great location. Cleanliness not up to standards - this element needs more attention and then will be spot on.

Ebor House is in the perfect location to explore the moors and the coast. The village is beautiful and the views from upstairs are stunning. The house has obviously had a lot of love and care put in to making it a happy holiday cottage, with welcoming details (tea, coffee, biscuits etc), hooks on the backs of doors(!) and a friendly absence of notiRead moreces and house rules. The owners were really lovely when we contacted them. I loved the big, spacious bedrooms, we are really missing our amazing view and sea breezes now we are back in the city. Definitely plan to return! Hide

We had a fantastic weekend break. The cottage is located in staithes which is a very small village. Thank you for letting us rent out your cottage. We would definitely use again. Cottage. Great location. Beds and sofas really comfy. The cottage is an old cottage, we visited in April and was cold on an evening/morning before the heaters heatRead moreed the rooms. Located at the top of staithes hill, 2 minutes walk to the small beach/town. Has a couple of pubs/cafes. There is no parking for the cottage and we used Glen Vale private parking which I would recommend. It's a 5minute walk to the cottage. Great base location for visiting, Whitby, sandsend, Scarborough.
