The Bothy is a lovely little escape from daily life situated on a small farm, tenanted by the same family for generations (and a host of sheep and horses). Cosy up together in this self-contained studio property; relax with your morning brew in the sun trap that is the south-facing terrace which overlooks open fields, sunbathe on the lawn, or dine in for two, inside or alfresco, and take a short after-dinner stroll a mile up the lane to the woodland and heather-covered moors beyond. Complete your evening with star-gazing in the stunning clear dark skies, a true treat in all seasons!

You are spoilt for choice for great walks, bike rides and picnic spots literally from the doorstep being situated within the North York Moors National Park; there is handy secure bike storage on site and an outside tap for muddy boots.

The cottage is located just outside of Pockley, a small but perfectly formed village, famous for its thatched roofs and just up the road from the rather fabulous and foodie-favourite Helmsley.

Food, outdoor activities, culture, or history - whichever you holiday for, Helmsley truly has them all. Regular exhibitions, festivals and the Helmsley Arts Centre or why not visit the National Centre for Birds of Prey for the historic hobby of royalty, the North Yorkshire Moors railway into Whitby from Pickering, the medieval Helmsley Castle and Walled Garden (a must-see, especially at spring or harvest time). Maybe grab your boots and get out on your bike, hike, or horse ride with Dalby Forest close by. Or perhaps the quintessential British activity of meandering about town with a touch of window shopping - even take some time to relax at the Verbena spa. If local produce is your thing, tour the brewery and sample handcrafted beers, the traditional sweet shop or work your way round the abundance of quaint tearooms, coaching inns, coffee houses and delis, or visit ‘Britain’s Best Small Shop’ Hunters of Helmsley for an artisanal hamper! And the area’s pièce de résistance, is not one jewel in the crown but a whole crown-full! There is a fine-dining culinary experience to be found for every night of your holiday if you should so wish; Tommy Bank's Michelin-starred Black Swan at Oldstead, The Hare at Scawton and The Pheasant or grade I-listed Star Inn both at Harome to name but a few!

This place was so quiet especially being on a farm so relaxing. It was near everything you needed to visit just short drive away. Host was very friendly as well oh and a lovely welcome pack jam, butter, milk biscuits. This place even has coffee, sugar, tea and towels and hairdryer not like few other places I have stayed at. Would definitely go back aRead moregain x Hide
