Near the southern tip of Ireland, where the Wild Atlantic Way meets Carbery's Hundred Isles, the historic village of Baltimore has a large natural harbour, a 13th-century castle, pretty fishermen’s cottages and a welcoming cluster of bars and restaurants. Once the haunt of pirates, today the village is a centre for all kinds of water-based activities – including sailing, deep-sea angling and whale-watching – and the embarkation point for boat trips to Cape Clear, Sherkin and Heir islands, each of which has its own special attractions. On the headland just a mile away, Baltimore Beacon is one of the area’s defining landmarks, while 4.5 miles in the opposite direction, sea lake Lough Hyne is Ireland’s first marine nature reserve and one of the most beautiful spots in West Cork for diving and water sports.

Holidays here are all about fresh air, seascapes and stunning sunsets – and this on-trend, detached residence delivers all. Located on a hillside around 300 metres from the sea and 600 metres from the village centre, it stands in its own grounds with huge windows and sliding doors facing seaward from the main living space. An open fire and choice of comfortable seating sets the scene for companionable together-time in the chic lounge area. Adjacent, the dining suite has elbow room for everyone and is conveniently close to a contemporary kitchen that’s fully equipped for fuss-free self-catering. Bar-style seating around a central island creates somewhere to sit and chat while sharing chef duties. When it’s time to say goodnight, three peaceful bedrooms beckon. One has a king-sized bed, walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room, one has a queen-sized bed and the third has bunk beds. A family bathroom completes the convenience for all.

Sliding doors from the lounge and kitchen lead onto a decking area furnished for outdoor dining. Step from here onto the lawn that slopes downhill and is edged with seasonal planting. Wind down with a soak in the hot tub or, if you’ve steam still to work off, walk around to the rear of the property and you’ll find an Astroturf football pitch.
