Very beautiful property with a magnificent sea view. The house itself, however, was completely unacceptable and is in desperate need of a major overhaul. We were greeted by a musty smell the moment we walked in. The furnishings consisted mostly of dilapidated furniture and lacked any sense of coziness; we certainly didn't feel welcome. Some of thRead moree windows were fogged up and very drafty. The plaster on the walls was bulging, and there was mold on the walls and windows in the kitchen, living room, and one bedroomas well as on the hodgepodge collection of kitchen utensils. We had to thoroughly clean the dishes before using them. The bathroom contained a rusty radiator that didn't even get lukewarmand this with an outside temperature of 12 degrees. The stove in the living room was still full of ash and had to be cleaned by us first. Even with a good bed of embers, it barely generated any heat. The radiators also failed to warm up the living area. We have never been so cold on vacation. Incidentally, there was no TV, even though the listing said there was one. The private beach was littered with trash. We realize that a lot of debris washes up, but when guests arrive, there should at least be a rough cleanup. There were no sun loungers or chairs for sitting outside, either. On the positive side, the beds were good; they were freshly made and comfortable. Upon our arrival, we found toast, butter, and milk in the fridge, we are thankful for that. The price-performance ratio was unreasonable for that state of the house (and we rent houses since 20+ years), and Shamrock cottages was nice emough to offer a partial refund. Hide
