Rosie Cottage was especially difficult to find in the dark, so first of all try to get there in the daylight! As it's right off a national speed limit road it can be challenging getting in & out too, but I must stress that any traffic noise was minimal & didn't bother us at all. The cottage itself is beautiful with exposed beams & modern kitchen & Read morebathroom resulting in a lovely mix of old & new. The main bedroom is a good size with a comfortable bed; the bathroom doesn't have a fan, the shower is good; kitchen was superbly equipped & nothing was lacking for us to prepare/cook normally. The location is fabulous with stunning views as long as you have a car- not too far to explore nearby towns, woods, walking trails etc. The only issue for us was that the heating system (storage heaters plus electric heaters on timers) were unfortunately not sufficient & we were almost always too cold, despite wearing layers & coming from a country where winters regularly reach -15c! We tried the fire every night but even when successful, it barely gave out any heat. We would return but definitely not during the colder months! Notes for potential guests: Rosie Cottage has: salt & pepper, washing up liquid, hand wash, a hair dryer. It doesn't have: cooking oil, body wash or any shower toiletries. Hide

We were disappointed with the cottage and thought it was overpriced. We had a very long journey through Storm Amy and it was a shame to arrive to chilly accommodation, no welcome pack and no washing-up liquid. The location is good, being fairly near Keswick and we enjoyed getting out and about. "Response from holidaycottages.co.uk - Thank you for Read moreyour feedback. We are sorry your arrival wasnt as warm or well-prepared as it should have been after your long journey. The welcome pack was missed due to a housekeeper oversight, and we're glad the heating issue could be repaired during your stay. Well ensure essentials are always in place going forward. We're pleased you enjoyed the location, and we appreciate your comments." Hide

Lovely little cottage although a little chilly at times, so needed to make use of the room heaters. The cottage is next to the A 591 and traffic noise was a bit much at times, although not overnight

This was a lovely cottage, if a little difficult to find at first. It is set right by the road but as we live next to a motorway the traffic noise (which was not that heavy in our opinion) did not bother us. There is everything you need for a week's holiday although I would recommend taking toilet roll with you as there was not a lot left when weRead more arrived, thankfully we always have some with us on this sort of holiday. We had a very nice break away here, we visited Carlisle so my husband could travel the Settle Carlisle railway. Not far away is Lakeland Distillery, this is a must visit both for the distillery tour/tasting and to the bistro. The food there was very nice and reasonably priced. We managed to walk a little bit around the lake but my hubbie has a dodgy knee so did not go too far. If you are looking for somewhere that is a little bit away from the usual Lake District area then this place is a must for you. Hide

Lovely cottage in a great location for exploring the Northern Lakes. Walking distance to the local pub (just a short bit on the slightly busy B road) and easy to get into Keswick and Cockermouth.

A very nice , clean and comfortable cottage. The views from the courtyard across the fields to Skiddaw were lovely. Not the easiest to locate even though it was above and backed onto the A591. Near to a bus stop ( 400m ) if you wanted to go into Keswick or Cockermouth without the car.

The cottage is situated in a beautiful setting, close to 2 public houses albeit the closest one closed for Christmas. It has beautiful views and many walks close by including Catbells which is ideal for all the family only a few minutes drive away.

Lovely cottage on the edge of Bassenthwaite village, ideal location for visiting the more northern lakes and Keswick. Very comfortable beds, good shower and spotlessly clean. Nice pubs nearby - we tried the Sun Inn in the village and The Pheasant just a few minutes drive round the top of the Lake. Try to go to Bassenthwaite Lake cafe, set in the olRead mored railway carriages from the more recent Murder on the Orient Express film, best veggie breakfast Ive had in ages. Hide
