Property code: OC-DS1049

Set in serenity in the tiny hamlet of Newbiggin, just above the Dales village of Askrigg, sits Howgate Farm. Having been in the same family for generations, the former farmhouse has been lovingly given a brand new lease of life for very fortunate guests.

As you look across the wonderful garden and uninterrupted view to Addlebrough plateau, the absolute peace and quiet is only broken by birdsong, the calls of newborn lambs and, if you’re lucky enough, the very occasional aeronautic show by jets out practising their spectacular routines.

The property has everything one could need for a family or friends gathering; space, comfort and ease of use have been paramount in the renovation. Beautiful Denby kitchenware, local artwork and quality furnishings are respectful to the rustic charm of the building. A smart TV, log burning stove and games cupboard mean you’ll be well-entertained if you chose to stay in. And when you want to venture out, this part of the Dales provides some exceptional road cycling, mountain biking and hiking. Or head to Lake Semerwater, a mere 13 minute drive away, perfect for wild swimming, watching wildlife and watersports or, if you have your own kit, canoeing, paddleboarding, sailing or windsurfing.

And, if you’ve worked up an appetite, stroll down through the fields to Askrigg; head to the Bakewell cafe for homemade delights, or to one of the three pubs offering great food and drink. There is also a well-stocked village shop. A little further afield is the 3 AA rosette Yorebridge House, if fine dining is more your thing or a private setting is required for a special occasion.

Private parking for three cars.

The cottage was very comfortable and very well equipped. The location is quiet with plenty of bird life and lambs in the nearby field. The sofas were really comfortable and the beds equally comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and a pleasure to cook in. Overall a nice property, clean and pretty well equipped. Couches and Beds were comfortable. Would have liked a 2nd shower and downstairs loo, but other than that a nice stay for a week.

The spacious cottage had beautiful views and was convenient for the village of Askrigg. The little laminated maps of local walks were very helpful. The drive from Newbiggin to Swaledale along the road behind the cottage was spectacular.
