Property code: OC-DS1049

Set in serenity in the tiny hamlet of Newbiggin, just above the Dales village of Askrigg, sits Howgate Farm. Having been in the same family for generations, the former farmhouse has been lovingly given a brand new lease of life for very fortunate guests.

As you look across the wonderful garden and uninterrupted view to Addlebrough plateau, the absolute peace and quiet is only broken by birdsong, the calls of newborn lambs and, if you’re lucky enough, the very occasional aeronautic show by jets out practising their spectacular routines.

The property has everything one could need for a family or friends gathering; space, comfort and ease of use have been paramount in the renovation. Beautiful Denby kitchenware, local artwork and quality furnishings are respectful to the rustic charm of the building. A smart TV, log burning stove and games cupboard mean you’ll be well-entertained if you chose to stay in. And when you want to venture out, this part of the Dales provides some exceptional road cycling, mountain biking and hiking. Or head to Lake Semerwater, a mere 13 minute drive away, perfect for wild swimming, watching wildlife and watersports or, if you have your own kit, canoeing, paddleboarding, sailing or windsurfing.

And, if you’ve worked up an appetite, stroll down through the fields to Askrigg; head to the Bakewell cafe for homemade delights, or to one of the three pubs offering great food and drink. There is also a well-stocked village shop. A little further afield is the 3 AA rosette Yorebridge House, if fine dining is more your thing or a private setting is required for a special occasion.

Private parking for three cars.

Outstanding cottage with spectacular views. Immaculate and well equipped both inside and out. Enclosed garden ideal for young families. Several walks straight from the door. Owners friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We would highly recommend. An absolute gem!

The cottage is simply beautiful: well equipped, attractively furnished and decorated and in a lovely location. We really enjoyed our time there and were very comfortable. We felt that the owners had gone out of their way to make it a really lovely place to stay. We hope to be back one of these days!

Howgate Farm is in a great location; a short walk from Askrigg and makes a great base for walks and bike rides from the door. Plus easy reach of nearby attractions. The cottage is pristine and fairly spacious for six. Although we didnt need any assistance, the very friendly owners are just next door and seemed very happy to help.

A home away from home, great attention to detail with the childrens needs, high chair was up and ready at the table, night lights in the room. A cosy home that honestly was a wonderful base for the week. We will definitely be coming back next year!
