This lovely cottage is perfect for a family to enjoy a seaside escape on the stunning Northumberland coast. The home is set on a quiet residential street in the little village of Newton-by-the-Sea. It boasts several fantastic local pubs and three beautiful stretches of sand. Coast path walking is a wonderful way to spend your time here and trails head off in both directions offering glorious views. The bustling town of Seahouses is 6 miles away with a working harbour and fish smokery as well as a great range of shops to browse. There are also cafes, pubs and restaurants galore, many serving delicious locally caught fish and seafood. Visitors shouldn’t miss visiting Bamburgh Castle 9.5 miles north and of course a trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, which is about 20 miles away.

The welcoming terraced cottage has been beautifully modernised with a bright open-plan living area. There are wooden floors throughout and plenty of windows letting in the light. Plush sofas are gathered around a cosy wood burner and French doors open to the garden beyond. The kitchen/dining area is stylish with all you need to prepare your family holiday feasts. Also on the ground floor, there’s a utility room and a useful separate cloakroom. On the first floor, guests will find three inviting bedrooms. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and dual-aspect windows with countryside views. The other bedrooms are a twin room and a serene single room. The sleek family bathroom has underfloor heating, a shower over the bath and a heated towel rail.

Outside is an attractive garden completely enclosed by a hedge and fence. Guests can access the patio via the living room’s French doors or a back door in the utility room. From the patio there are three steps up to an expanse of lawn that is perfect for games and picnics. The patio is equipped with outside furniture where the whole group can gather and enjoy meals or drinks in the open air. There is also a charcoal BBQ available for guests to use.

We love High Newton and this cottage. We have been coming to the village for 10 years and to this cottage for 3 of those years. However, it is clear that some maintained is required to ensure the high standard we saw in the first visit is continued to be maintained. A number of the window blinds require attention or are broken, the seal on the bottRead moreom of the shower screen is missing, the water tank for the shelter was full when we came to use it and the cottage was cold when we arrived (despite it being early June) so we had to adjust the heating and the radiators. Also the garden and its furniture are really starting to look very tired and in some cases quite dirty. Again, fabulous location and lovely cottage, but attention to detail seems to be slipping and detracts from the overall feeling of value for money Hide

The cottage was in a great location, and nicely equipment and decorated. However the heating wasn't working on our arrival, and at 13 degrees it was unbearably cold. There was no out of hours support and so we had a terrible first night. In the morning we managed to access the garage and wire round the damaged thermostat so that we had some heat iRead moren the house, all before the support lines opened. The issue wasn't resolved during our stay leaving us with erratic control of the heating in the house. No alternative heating sources were provided, and although there was a wood burner, there was no wood left for guests and the handle on the wood-burner was broken. The hoover didn't work either, and light bulbs had gone in the kitchen with none left to replace. If the property was better maintained it would have been lovely. As it was, it was overpriced for what we received. Reply from HolidayCottages.co.uk: Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback, we apologies the property fell short during your stay. I can confirm that the heating and hoover are now both fixed, and will be addressing the logs and broken bulbs on the next change over. Hide

The property is very well located providing access to three beaches and plenty of walking. It is within walking distance of The Ship Inn and crawling distance of The Joiners Arms! It is a very comfortable, dog friendly property with secure rear garden and useful utility room. We had a very enjoyable stay and will return.

Lovely property in a great location, easy access- walking distance to some of the best beaches in Northumberland and the best crab sandwiches at the Ship Inn. The property was large and comfortable, great built in oven and microwave and fabulous to have a gas hob. Plenty of plates/cutlery/glasses (perhaps too much, difficult to keep track of cleRead moreanliness with so much stuff available). The property was lovely and warm and very quiet. The only thing that let the property down was the cleanliness. The floors needed a good clean, thick dust in the corners and cobwebs hanging from the walls in the main bedroom. The bathroom was disappointing, black mould around the bath and shower door. I had to clean the shower head before we could use the shower to remove all the mould. The bottom of the shower door is missing allowing water to escape all over the floor making it very slippery. We booked this cottage for the enclosed garden for our dog. Unfortunately the grass was so long she couldnt use it and we had to take her on the village green out the front for her to toilet. The grass was cut on the Thursday, far too late as we left on Saturday. Hide
