  • Charming, cosy Victorian cottage with period features and furnishings on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors
  • Super location right in the heart of historic Pickering
  • The property has its own games room for fun family nights in
Property code: OC-Y110

Situated up a quiet lane in the centre of ancient Pickering, Pantile Cottage could not be more inviting…. This deceptively-spacious, two bedroom cottage, has been lovingly brought back to life. The owners love this place like their home and have recently redecorated, retaining the history, character and features of the property throughout. It is bursting at the seams with homely Victorian touches and quirky, local decorations; William Morris wallpapers, iron bed frames, natural carpets and interesting Arts and Crafts objects fill each room and wrap you up in a bygone era.

You can enter at the front of the property, handy for town, or from the gated, private parking area and lovely courtyard to the rear. In the sitting room, there is a multi-fuel stove (a starter set of kindling and logs is provided to get you going); snuggle up on the sofas with books, games, a speaker with aux port and smart tv to keep your whole group thoroughly entertained. Into the kitchen, which overlooks the courtyard and seats four very comfortably and cosily, just next to the Aga. And then through to the well-stocked games room at the rear of the cottage with board games, a pool table and additional tv. The two beautifully decorated bedrooms sleep four (one twin and one double room) and are at either side of the house, separated by the staircase, and share a shower room with waterfall shower. Outside, there is a quaint courtyard with seating and vintage signage.

If you fancy eating out, Pickering is very lucky to host a multitude of highly-regarded restaurants, pubs and cafes, as well as independent shops at every turn. Local activities include the North York Moors Steam Railway, Pickering Castle, and the Beck Isle Museum all giving you a peek into the past. Children will be exceptionally well-occupied, not least by the wonderful games room, but with Flamingo Land theme-park a mere 8 minutes way, the coast just 35 minutes away, Dalby Forest’s bike and hiking trails and Go-Ape just up the road, and the North York Moors on your doorstep. Why not try the (second) highest pub in Yorkshire - pop into the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge for a refreshing pint and home-cooked meal next to a roaring fire after a day out on’t Moors.

There is plenty of space for a friends or family gathering with private parking for 3 cars and further on-street parking available close by. Also, bicycle storage - please bring your own padlock to secure it.

Such a lovely, decorated home gives one the perfect experience of the English cottage in a quiet little historic town of Pickering. Lots of amenities nearby plus the town to explore! Central to see other Yorkshire sites. Private parking was a bonus. Stairs are a bit steep, but we managed. Bathroom is close to one of the bedrooms.

Excellent property that I would strongly recommend, just be aware of the Arga. We regularly rent cottages up and down the country and on the continent and this one is as good as any and sensibly priced also.

Pantile House is a fabulous property in a beautiful town which has been sympathetically renovated to a very good standard, in keeping with its surroundings. We enjoyed great days out in the local area, had great food and drink and returned to the house which was warm and cozy. Quaint cottage, decorated in keeping with style of the cottage. Well situated in the town and close to local attractions. You do get traffic noise which I suppose you would expect being in town. We enjoyed our stay there.

The cottage is beautiful to look around with every amenity you could need. Plenty of space for 4 people staying. The beds comfortable, the shower worked perfectly, all the equipment worked properly. I had my gate helper with me, so easy to get in and out. The location is brilliant as it sits on the crossroads of the two main roads in this part of the world, so you were straight out on your journeys. Plenty to do in Pickering -the castle, the railway and the best find, the church on the hill. I would strongly recommend a visit here. Plenty of places to get food in the town - restaurants, cafes, takeaways - Cappelman's Fish and Chip restaurant was great. They now have a Lidl which meant getting food for the house was easy. Overall I fell in love with the property and Pickering and really want to come back with other family members Hide

The cottage was cold on arrival and it took a bit of time to get it warm. The fire starting kit was just that, enough to start it but not maintain the first evenings fire. We had to replace the battery in the auto stopcock and buy washing up liquid. A chopping board and pizza cutter would have been useful. Great location and parking.

This is a comfortable cottage, ideally located for the centre of Pickering and as a base for exploring the area. It might not be suitable for less mobile persons, as there are steep and narrow steps up to the main bedroom. Otherwise, it can't be faulted in terms of the facilities provided, including the safe off-road parking for up to 3 cars.
