Property code: OC-DCGRIF

Griffedale is a super barn conversion that is finished to a very high standard. Behind its picture window glass wall, it has a wonderful interior with stone flagged and oak floors, luxurious soft furnishings, beautiful lamps, carefully selected artwork and feature pieces of furniture.

Griffedale is one of a group of cottages – a former farmhouse and its associated buildings – in a remote valley with lots of walks right from the door and the High Peak Trail passing by on the top of the field. Close by is picturesque Brassington village, with its jumbles of cottages and great pubs. Nearby Carsington Water has water sports, cycle trails and birdwatching and historic Wirksworth is a super little town where you can explore its heritage trail and railway, range of local shops, pubs, restaurants and even a small cinema.

This is a glorious part of the Derbyshire Dales, close by the Peak District National Park, where it is very easy to get away from the crowds. You might just fancy Matlock Bath with its cable cars and riverside prom or nearby Cromford Mill in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor. Magnificent Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are just up the valley or there is always Bess of Hardwick’s amazing hall, Bolsover’s brilliant castle and even Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest.

DOWNSTAIRS:

A stylish open-plan lounge/diner with comfortable furniture, Smart TV, WiFi, eco log burning stove and dining area with table and four chairs by the window, with views across the fields.

A superbly fitted kitchen adjacent, with breakfast bar, bespoke units, hard wood surfaces, Belfast sink, hob, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, slimline dishwasher and washer/dryer.

A gorgeous downstairs bedroom with king size bed, French doors to the patio, and en suite shower room with WC and basin.

UPSTAIRS:

A second well presented bedroom with super king size bed and en suite shower room with WC and basin.

OUTSIDE:

There is a large, attractive patio area with garden furniture/parasol and cushions, views of the surrounding fields. Sole private use of the lawn area outside the property.  Note there is a steep drop from the edge of the lawn to the field.

A great place to stay for Christmas. A Christmas tree was a nice extra touch as was the welcome pack. The accommodation itself was super clean, comfortable and warm.

The site manager responded very quickly to our request for a shower stool. She definitely put her customers first which is what I call top notch service. Thank you Karen. This cottage has been well designed and is very comfortable. It is well equipped and the Wi-Fi speed is very good. So long as you position your seat correctly, there is a loRead morevely countryside view across the valley with both livestock (sheep and cows) and wildlife (rabbits, hares and many different birds) to keep you entertained. We did that a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the other direction there is a factory building in the yard you drive through to reach the cottage, three wind turbines and a row of pylons and cables. The factory building was quite noisy with constantly running machinery during working hours. As it was quite cold for our visit this was not a problem as you cannot hear it inside the cottage at all, but I suspect it would detract from sitting outside in better weather. The downstairs bedroom has the most storage space and a much larger shower room which is very good indeed. It has a king-size bed. The upstairs (only half-a floor up really) has a super king-size bed but a much smaller shower room and no wardrobe - just a row of pegs with hangers. Both bedrooms have a good amount of drawer space. As we rented the cottage as a couple (just two of us) we slept in the upper bedroom to have the advantage of a cosier room with a bigger bed, but kept our clothes in the downstairs one and used the downstairs shower room. It is a shame they did not put a super-king downstairs as well as there is plenty of room, but using the two rooms in the way that we did worked well and we were very happy with the arrangement. As usual, there were a couple of quirky aspects to the design like the hand-woven carpet in the downstairs bedroom which was extremely rough to walk on in bare feet and, because there was such a huge amount of cooking equipment, there was not actually any cupboard space to store food - just one empty drawer. We enjoyed our stay in Griffedale and we would recommend it to those of our friends who we know, like us, would enjoy the views on its good side. For the future, the addition of a charging point for electric cars would be much appreciated and, within a few more years, will become essential. Hide

Actual position very good but noise from either the wind turbines or nearby works could be very irritating if sat outside.Smell in bedroom with beams caused my daughter to cough.Possibly caused by treatment to the wood.

Beautiful home, ideally located and very well equipped. We stayed 3 nights and felt so at home we spent two of them in the cottage. Would highly recommend and stay again. I should also mention it was spotlessly clean.
