One of our Coastal Retreats Collection

From wild walks to woollen mills, from golf courses to gastronomy, there is so much to discover about the beautiful border country of Scotland.

Tweedswood is our first foray over the border from Northumberland and we are delighted to include this taste of Scotland in the collection. Named after its surrounding river and woodland, and the nearby salmon fishing beat, Tweedswood is everything you could imagine of a traditional Borders holiday cottage, and more.

Off the beaten track, in the small tranquil hamlet of Redpath, around four miles from Melrose - famous for its literary festival, you are greeted by the distinctive white painted stone exterior of 200-year-old Tweedswood set against a backdrop of rolling green hills. Semi-detached, but very private, the cottage has a large lawned garden - safe for children but also a delightful haven for adults - with views to the hills beyond.

A wonderful fusion of old and new, its original architectural features have been enhanced by squashy Loaf sofas, White Company linens and a contemporary fireplace with slate hearth. In a nutshell Tweedswood is simply delightful. Cosy yet sophisticated, you can dream away hours in its heavenly surroundings, whether reading a book on the kitchen window seat, watching the clouds roll by in the generous lawned garden or watching the flames flickering in the log burning stove. Edinburgh is only 50 minutes away by car or on the recently reopened Borders railway should you crave a day out in the city.

* Please note, since the filming of this video tour Tweedswood has added an ensuite shower room to the master bedroom, and the climbing frame has been removed from the garden but the swings and fort remain.

  • Ideal accommodation for the annual Borders Book Festival, the famous Melrose Sevens Tournaments or for the Common Ridings

CANDID COMMENTS

The stairs in this old cottage are quirky and a little steep so may be a little tricky for those of limited mobility but fine for everyone else. Upstairs, the ceilings are quite low, particularly if the second bedroom is made up as a superking. The front door parking is in a narrow layby by the house on the road (a small very quiet country lane which is not a through road) and the private parking at the rear is on a stoned track, tight space but feasible - you may prefer this for loading and unloading, especially with little ones. Otherwise, the perfect Scottish Retreat.

TO NOTE

Whilst we take great care to represent our properties and their facilities as accurately as possible, the décor, furnishings and facilities shown in images and video tours may occasionally be subject to minor change.

It is suitable for children of all ages and includes a private garden and outdoor play equipment. There are also many child-friendly activities within driving distance of the cottage.

Lovely cottage, seating not great for anyone with a back problem! Redpath was a first for us but great location and Coffee and Cakes at the Community Hall was a great way to meet people, all very friendly. The stairs both to the cottage and upstairs were a bit challenging but if you are fit and able probably fine. If the seating was better wed be vRead moreery happy to return. Recommendations would be with caveat as above. Hide
