Winterton-on-Sea is a lovely east coast village with a glorious sandy beach, that remains as such whether the tide is in or out. Backed by dunes, which are part of the National Nature Reserve, this stretch of the coast also forms part of the Norfolk Coastal Path. The area is truly delightful and gives you a real sense of being away from the hustle and bustle of life. Aside from the wonderful beach, the village has some good local facilities including a chippy, village store, tea room, beach café and pub. Just up the coast is Horsey, which has a similar beach and a local seal colony; come over the winter months and you will see the seal pups too. For cultural pursuits, the splendid city of Norwich is a short drive away, visit the two cathedrals, the Castle, The Lanes full of independent shops, and the marketplace in the city centre. The Broads National Park is also within easy reach and offers 125 miles of waterways to explore. Hire a boat, book a ride with the Canoe Man or just walk the nature trails, there is plenty to see here. The east coast hinterland is flat and sits under wide open Norfolk skies, a cyclists’ dream. There are numerous gardens to visit in the area too, Somerleyton Hall & Gardens and East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens, to name but two and there are plenty of farm shops, showcasing local produce for you to enjoy.
