Seven of us and an English setter (Buddy) stayed at Red Lion house from Feb 13th to 20th. We had snow on arrival but no more thereafter. We were warm, comfortable and so well provided for that it was just like being home yet in a marvelous setting. The garden was exciting for Buddy and he refused to leave on the last day. The orangery was perfecRead moret for a dinner party so we polished the candlesticks and found a wonderful ironmongers on Rothbury which was a cross between Arkwrights and Olivanders! And they had exactly the candles we needed. We were met by Susan on arrival who gave us the grand tour and recommended the local pub "The Rose and Thistle" We had a fabulous old fashioned English Saturday lunch, with nice people and staff. We will certainly go again. It's so off the beaten track but in easy reach of everywhere else, with plenty of local walks, hills, churches and villages to explore. Hide

The cottage was really well equipped. The location is quite remote, at least 30mins drive to get to Cragside or slightly more for Alwnwick etc. Garden was lovely and well enjoyed by us all, and the dog. Orangery was a nice spot for a drink in the evening.
