Westover House is a beautiful 182 year old farmhouse and is one of the oldest and most charming houses in Croyde. It is set back just 300 meters from Croyde beach, a flat 3 minute walk to the ocean. At the end of the lane you can also join the South West coast path to Baggy Point and beyond, a National Trust gem of open land with spectacular views across the sea to Lundy Island. Originally one large 9 bedroom family home (Ruda Farm as it was known then), the house has been divided with the semi detached property to the west forming Beach cottage. Bay windows added to the original house in 1900 ensure great views towards the beach and dunes and the leafy, sunny, south facing garden. If you enjoy walking, swimming, cycling, kayaking, horse riding, a local festival or just relaxing then the location of Westover House is second to none. The beauty of Exmoor with its ever-changing flora and fauna is a scenic half an hours’ drive away. Here you can explore historical villages and quaint hamlets whilst never being far from the stunning Devon coastline. Great pubs, restaurants and tea shops are an easy walk away in Croyde village. Maybe you could join the local surfers at the famous Thatch Inn for a great range of beers one evening.
Today Westover House is a wonderfully comfortable home from home residence which has been recently refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining its farmhouse character and detail. The entrance to the property is through the ancient beamed oak wooden door (steeped in Moorish history), the large entrance lobby/utility area is perfect for dumping down after a day on the beach. The large family kitchen and gas range has everything you need to prepare meals and the patio doors lead out onto the private, sunny garden with a large picnic table if you fancied some alfresco dining. The living room has comfy seating and large smart TV to enjoy family films. On the first floor there are 3 light and airy bedrooms, one with ensuite and a further family bathroom. For an active break or just to have some total relaxation, Croyde and Westover House make the perfect combination.
