  • Romantic bolthole for two with a relaxing interior
  • Situated on the edge of Dovedale with walks from the doorstep

Property code: OC-DCPOT

The Potting Shed is a lovely little cottage, in the grounds of the owners' home, snuggled up on the side of Dovedale with incredible views way out across the valley. As you leave the Ashbourne to Buxton road and head for the cottage there is something almost magical as you 'drop over the edge' into the Dale with its dramatic hills and lovely sparkling river.

Locations don't come much better than this and nor does the cottage which is a 'quart in a pint pot' little hide-a-way that's the perfect base for exploring the Peak District.

Get up early on your first morning and watch the sun light up the beautiful valley. Have a scrumptious breakfast on the cottage patio to set yourselves up for a hard day's exploring and then just head out on the numerous local footpaths and lose yourselves in this incredible landscape.

Tiny retreat with spectacular views and every comfort. We went there to go walking so werent looking for a big space. Lovely garden with somewhere to eat out while admiring the view. Highly recommend!

Very disappointing experience staying at the Potting Shed this summer. Firstly, the bins outside were half-full on arrival and overflowing by the time we left, as there were no clear instructions when or if they would be emptied. Next, this property does not have Wi-Fi connectivity, as the password provided by the owner in the property and over texRead moret message is false information as the Internet does not connect to any device. Also, there is no mobile service in the area, therefore mobile data is not an option either. I recommend bringing some DVDs and other physical media, as again it does not state above there is a DVD player when there in fact is on the back of the television. Finally, the water pressure is very uneven, making simple tasks like washing your hands and brushing your teeth very difficult for any one of any age or ability. I strongly do not recommend this accommodation or giving the owners any money unless you want to be accused of owning a dog when you dont and accused of leaving mud in the property when you didnt. They displayed absolutely no appreciation for the work myself and my partner did, including but not limited to: stripped the bedding; placed all used towels in the shower cubicle; replaced all plates and cutlery clean and dry in their original place; ensured muddy hiking boots and coats were left outside; replaced the AAA batteries in the TV remote control (which did not work on arrival), placed a Domestos toilet cleaner in the toilet, and took the bins out and into the appropriate wheelie bin; and finally, left by 09:30am on the day of departure after doing all of the above beforehand. Compact as seen on the photos but very clean and everything thought of to help the holiday be enjoyable. Cleaning products, dish cloths, tea, coffee etc all provided. The weather was amazing while we were there, spent each breakfast and evening meal sitting at the garden table with the amazing views all around us. Explored the areas doing brilliantRead more walks. Only wish we were still there. Is is small, but we managed just fine. Hide

Apart from boy racers and bikers whizzing past at the weekend, and a weak wifi signal (which was non existent on my final day), this is a great location and a nice little studio type cottage with all requirements close to hand.

The potting shed was a lovely place to stay, amidst the Peak District hills and wildlife. Some good walks & pubs nearby. Underfloor heating was great!

Really beautiful views, lovely little place, it's really cosy, loved it for our honeymoon - and first holiday on our own since having our baby

A lovely, quirky cottage with fantastic views of the area. Had everything required for a comfortable holiday, the bed was super comfy (although a small portable heater would be nice to have). Great location to get out and about and a lovely pub with home made food only about 300 yards away. Would definitely recommend.

The Potting Shed had everything you could need but the furniture, towels and bedding were tired and in need of an upgrade. They were clean though which was good and the bed was comfy. Disappointed it is not mentioned about the main road as we would probably have not booked had we known. The road was generally quiet at night which was a blessing.

Highly recommend this little cottage, small but everything needed. Lovely location, great pub and fish and chips not far away where the best! Would definitely come back again but probably leave my daughter at home and bring the dog.

We thought the cottage was very well thought out. Lots of things in a small space. The road outside could do with being mentioned not only being steep in both directions but dangerous to walk with the traffic. Certainly not suitable for disabled.

Lovely setting and views. The potting shed was as described small but really cosy and so well equipped. The underfloor heating worked well to keep us warm and comfortable. The garden was beautiful and the owners very friendly.

A well presented and maintained cottage ideal for a couple on a short stay basis. Close to a steep hill so take care when pulling in or out. Helpful owners.
