Throstle Nest Barn sits in a very tranquil location in a rural setting with breath taking views across Swaledale and sleeps four guests. The Barn has been renovated with a feel of luxury, comfort and style with exposed beams giving it real country charm. The kitchen is a real country kitchen with its stone flagged floor and a stable door which opens out onto a patio and seating area where you can enjoy some of those beautiful views. You will enjoy preparing a home cooked meal with local sourced produce and maybe even get the urge to express the Mary Berry in you and bake a batch of scones what could be more charming. If you are lucky you may even be able to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights which have been seen from the kitchen window! The upstairs lounge with its exposed beams log burner and views overlooking the private field with lovely meadow flowers and far reaching views a lovely space to relax and chill after a day’s walking or for the energetic miles and miles of cycling locally over the hills. The main bedroom has a beautiful king size sleigh bed to sink into and a door opening out with access to outside via a stone stairway.
Food choices are also varied. To pick up provisions for eating in then the Friday market in Reeth has a good selection of fresh produce. If you are eating out then The Dales Bike Centre also has a great café, serving delicious lunches and cakes. Another contender for the best scone in Swaledale goes to Overton House in Reeth which has a lovely selection of savoury and sweet treats. Alternatively try out the Reeth Ice Cream Parlour for delicious homemade ice-cream. The protected wildflower meadows burst into colour in May and June, with rich autumn hues from September onwards. The Yorkshire Dales are loved for their spectacular scenery, old market towns and unspoilt villages. Why not visit one of the many castles, stately homes or abbeys, ending with a visit to one of the local tea shops? There are activities to suit all tastes from pot holing to climbing crags or watching waterfalls; or, if you prefer wheels to walking, why not try the network of bridleways and byways? What better way to end your day than a visit to one of the local Dale's pubs to sample the local beer and food?
You can’t stay in this area without a visit to the Wensleydale creamery of Wallace and Gromit fame, watch cheese being made and taste an authentic Wensleydale. Further afield you will find many villages all with their own traditions. The Dales is also home of the Three Peaks walk if you are of an energetic nature or follow the Tour De Yorkshire route and cycle around the hills and valleys whilst marvelling at some of the most stunning views you will ever see. Winter or summer there is so much to do here, with local artisans producing a vast array of products including woollen goods from our famous sheep you won’t be disappointed.
