The Old Chapel is a cosy and traditionally decorated 2 bedroom Chapel, situated 200 yds from the southern edge of the North York Moors at the gateway to Bransdale owned by the National Trust. The kitchen was once the local Sunday School and the main chapel was built in 1874. It’s showpiece is the stunning living room with its high ceilings and proportions, with large windows, beams and two levels including a mezzanine bedroom. The gardens are a delight bordered by mature hedges, trees and bushes.  It is a haven for wildlife and birds and looks over the fields adjoining the moors.  The beamed living room has a glass door out to the delightful, paved patio and garden which is a real suntrap. The kitchen is a delight and is designed in country style. It is well equipped and has everything you need to prepare a home cooked meal from some lovely local ingredients.  The Old Chapel boasts two restful bedrooms all individually designed, just right for a lazy morning in bed before setting out to explore this most beautiful of areas.  The property can sleep six if the mezzanine bedroom is used but note the room is open to the living room below with limited privacy.

This lovely cottage would make an ideal retreat for families and friends to enjoy the moors or coast with Whitby being only a half hour drive away and the rest of the East Coast easily accessible.  If you are of an energetic nature bring your bikes and set off for a day of wonder and cycle over the moors, come rain or shine this is one of the most stunning areas in Yorkshire and not to be missed on cycle, foot or car. The market town of Helmsley is a short drive away with its historic castle, walled garden and individual shops.  Rievaulx and Byland Abbeys are also close by. If you are a foodie there are two Michelin starred restaurants within 20 mins drive and many more excellent restaurants and pubs serving great Yorkshire fare.  You are spoilt for choice in this area of Yorkshire.  Whatever your interests there is something for everyone, historic castles, even older abbeys, museums, farms, walking, cycling for Tour De Yorkshire enthusiasts, superb local markets with the very best Yorkshire produce and of course restaurants and tea rooms too numerous to mention.

We chose The Old Chapel for its secluded location & it was everything we hoped for and more. The garden was a delight and brilliant for our two dogs even though our little street rescue found a number of creative ways to either escape or hide (under the summerhouse!). However, once Frazzle-proofed, it was perfect! For anyone with a normal dog it wRead moreould be a joy. It was brilliant being just a few metres from the moors and we had some lovely, peaceful walks with no one around, made even better as the weather was glorious. We would highly recommend this property for anyone who enjoys not being in the thick of it and who is looking for peace and tranquility (apart from the dirt bikes on Sunday). And if you're looking for a people-fix, the pretty town of Helmsley isn't far. All in all a thoroughly lovely cottage. Hide

An interesting property in a lovely, quiet location. A few 'housekeeping' issues need addressing then it would be a 'very good' property.

A lovely cottages with a beautifull garden and surrounding area. Everything you need is in the cottage. Foothpads on your doorsteps. We've only a few advices: the matresses need to be replaced by new ones and a comfortable chair in the sitting room would be nice.
