Mullions Nook is a stunning quirky detached one bedroomed barn conversion, circa 17th century and Grade 2 Listed, the Mullions which sits just across the quiet lane and is also available for rent.

The conversion of the barn completed in February 2021 and included the installation of brand-new kitchen and en suite bathroom whilst preserving all the historic features of this stone barn such as the stone staircase up to the front door, the exposed stonework to interior walls and chunky original wooden beamed floors to the upstairs.

The barn lies down a quiet back lane leading up to the village pub which serves excellent meals and beyond it the village shop, together only some 300m away.

Buckden is one of the most beautiful Dales villages nestled at the top of Wharfedale and surrounded in all directions by simply stunning countryside. Buckden Pike at 2303ft climbs up across the road from the cottage and walks and fabulous cycling radiates from the house. A locking storeroom under the barn provides storage for bikes. The Nook has its own stone flagged and gated parking space and a pretty garden with seating. Sit quietly and hear nothing but the wind, the babbling of nearby Buckden Beck and the raucous crows in their rookery in the trees above.

Wensleydale and its market towns of Hawes and Leyburn and attractions like Bolton Castle and the Wensleydale Creamery of Wallace and Gromit fame is 30 mins drive North. To the South Grassington, star of the latest All Creatures Great and Small incarnation is 11 miles away. York, Leeds and Harrogate all lie within ninety minutes’ drive and there is a full range of shopping in Skipton, 18 miles South and also boasting a super castle.

Sitting Room: Entered via a fabulous stone staircase and glazed front door the sitting room and kitchen/diner are open plan across the entire top of the barn. Exposed stonework and original wooden beamed floor keep the history whilst roof mounted velux windows flood the space with light. The grey striped 2-piece suite is very smart with chunky solid oak coffee and side tables and a tv for entertainment. A nook within the Nook to the front offers a comfortable armchair for that evening relax with a glass of wine and the antique spinning wheel to the window echoes the areas weaving history.

Kitchen/Diner: Raised up a step the brand new bright and breezy blue coloured kitchen with oak worktops is very on trend. A Treske solid ash dining table provides seating for two. Electric cooker, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer and microwave mean this kitchen offers all you need for a comfortable stay.

Stairs: The original wooden barn staircase leads down to the large bedroom and ensuite on the ground floor.

Bedroom: Flooded with light from the ceiling height double window filling the former doors to the barn and with an external door to the exterior. The original heavy wooden barn doors remain to the outside of the windows and can be locked shut for privacy. The massive pine country super-king bed supports a pocket sprung mattress for comfort and there is an antique carved wooden coffer and rush seated chair for seating. A built-in wardrobe provides plenty of clothes storage.

Ensuite Bathroom: This huge bathroom is very smart with its duck egg blue colouring and a walk in shower, wc , wash basin and large heated towel rail to keep things toasty.

Externally: Mullions Nook has its own gated stone flagged parking and garden just across the quiet lane. The garden is beautiful with mature shrubs and herbaceous borders and a wooden bench offers a fabulous location to contemplate Buckden Pike which rises steeply behind.

The cottage was not what we were expecting from the description. My husband is 6ft+. We were not aware that the ceiling heights would be so restrictive. The beam in the living area was low and the lintel that stretched across the bedroom resulted in him having to duck when he needed to access the en-suite. It wasn't possible to take advantage oRead moref the views from within the property. The small window at the front of the cottage simply looked across the lane, and the other light came from velux windows in the roof. Hide

A very lovely cottage for our week's stay. Comfortable and spacious with a generous Welcome Pack. With scenic river walks and Buckden Pike on your doorstep, there was no need to use the car much. The local pubs offered good food. Hope to return to Mullions Nook in the future.

Buckden is a great location for exploring Upper Wharfdale, and Littondale also not far to Wensleydale. Several lovely dales villages along the river, many with nice pubs / restaurants / tea shops. Very quiet and peaceful.
