West End Cottage is grade 2 listed and is probably one of the oldest cottages in Askrigg, right in the cobbled village centre opposite the church. It has a lovely, large south facing walled garden with meadows and hills behind to give that spacious feeling of the countryside on your doorstep, as indeed it is, yet with the pubs, restaurants and shops within a stone’s throw. The cottage has a wealth of original features with stone flags, planked floors and doors, and beamed ceilings throughout the cottage, which is filled with nooks and crannies.

The cottage has a small entrance porch with space for coats and boots, and from this you enter the stone flagged, beamed front room with its two comfy settees and multi fuel stove. An original (and very deep) storage cupboard houses tourist information, DVDs, books, games to keep you entertained throughout your stay. Off the living room and also at the front of the house is the cosy stone flagged dining room, with its traditional old round table and chairs and antique dresser. Also, off the living room is the original stone shelved scullery for the cottage, now a useful pantry and utility room, with ample storage space. At the rear of the cottage is the pretty hand built kitchen with Rayburn stove (very easy to operate), and from here the back door leads across a grassed area of garden belonging to the house next door, to the old barn behind the cottage, and through this to the south facing walled garden which belongs to the cottage and is for your exclusive use. The barn gives ample storage space for outdoor gear and bikes, and the garden is a real sun trap with a raised patio area with garden furniture.

Back in the cottage there are two charming and spacious single bedrooms on the first floor, along with the family shower room with a spacious and modern power shower. The master bedroom is up a further flight of stairs tucked away at the top of the cottage, with stunning views to the hills beyond. This is a king-sized bedroom with the bed on a raised dais and a massively beamed ceiling-a truly romantic room to hide yourself away in and relax.

Great place to stay at the centre of the village, with great shops and pubs within walking distance. The only downside would be the Rayburn cooker and heating system which burns oil and very tempremental.

A great location in this wonderful town. Right opposite Skeldale House [All Creatures 1977], with quality, welcoming pubs very close by. Askrigg is well located for ventures to all compass points on foot or by road. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a lovely time at the West End Cottage in Askrigg. The cottage is very well equipped. It has everything you may need on your holiday. The bedrooms are very comfortable. The bathroom is modern with underfloor heating. There's also wood-burner which was handy when we visited at the beginning of March. The logs and everything you will need for iRead moret was already there too. Tea, coffee and biscuits were a nice touch and made us feel welcome. The location is amazing with great walks on your doorstep. There are three pubs within walking distance serving delicious food and drinks. I truly recommend this cottage to anyone. My friends and I are already thinking of returning soon to this beautiful cottage. Hide

West End Cottage is very nice. Everything you need is available. There are just two points to mention in my opinion: 1.) The parking situation is bit difficult. Especially on day of arrival or departure it's not comfortable to carry the baggage hundreds of meters from the cottage to the car or the other way around. 2.). The table in the dining roRead moreom could be replaced im my opinion. The surface is very rough and difficult to keep clean and the tabletop wiggles if somebody leans on it. Hide
