If you were going to write a description for the perfect country holiday cottage, then Rook’s Cottage would be it. It is a Grade 2 listed building tucked away near the church in the centre of Askrigg. It was built in 1825 according to its date stone in the fireplace and has a rare stone spiral turret staircase. Rook’s is full of traditional Dales character with massive oak beams, reputed to have been originally ships beams, York stone and pine boarded floors, sash windows and nooks and crannies in every wall. The Yorkshire Range with open fire in the kitchen is a great centrepiece for the room and there is a further cosy stove in the stone fireplace in the living room which is upstairs so that you get the best views of Wensleydale.

Rook’s Cottage has been fully refurbished with comfort in mind. It has a master bedroom with King-size bed and en suite shower room downstairs and a twin room upstairs, next door to the gorgeous bathroom with its roll top bath and separate shower. Downstairs is the farmhouse style dining kitchen-great for a leisurely meal chilling out around the antique pine dining table with a glass of wine and the fire lit. Up the Turret stairs is the delightful lounge with its own fireplace and large squishy leather sofas.

Also upstairs is the secret garden, which can only be accessed through the door at the top of the turret staircase. It is perfect for an alfresco glass of wine whilst hidden away in your own secret corner of Askrigg.

Askrigg is the perfect location for exploring the Dales and Rooks Cottage was delightful. Quirky but charming, stone, spiral staircase and upstairs sitting room, but somehow it worked wonderfully

Lovely, traditional cottage in historic Askrigg, with access to pubs, restaurants a cafe and local shop. Great walking from the doorstep and very quiet surroundings. liked the cottage, ideal for walking from the door. The pubs are a short stroll, we had some lovely meals in the Kings Arms but the other pubs where also very good.

Great property and well equipped in a great location! Unfortunately it was cold and hard to reach a warm temperature. The bathroom was warm but the bedroom next door had no heating. Downside of exposed flagstones. Summer property maybe? Anyway, recommend 'Bake - Well' and the Hotel next door: Good beer and food.

Beautiful cottage. Really relaxing. The cottage had everything you could need and more. The bath was huge, plenty hot water, towels were fluffy and big. The fire in the kitchen was amazing. Our whole experience was just what we wanted and were not disappointed.

We had a lovely week at Rooks Cottage. It was comfy and cozy. We didnt attempt to light the log burner upstairs until the last evening but couldnt find any matches but we only wanted to do this for ambience rather than necessity. The shower in the main bathroom was blocked from the start so we didnt use it. As mentioned by many, the stairs were a bRead moreit of an issue, even for fit folk! (Our 18 year old stumbled whilst going up them) so care is needed. We found them a pain with the dog as if you want your furry friend in the lounge with you, you either have to trust them to negotiate their way up and down or carry them. Other than that, comfy beds and very well equipped. Hide

Lovely warm cottage in a great location . All you could possibly want in terms of kitchen equipment. Logs and kindling left for a fire if you want to use it, just remember to bring matches.

Beautiful traditional cottage in the centre of Askrigg just behind the church. Quiet location yet central for touring the Dales. Choice of local places to eat out. The property would not suit someone less able as the stairs are narrow and winding. Property was well equipped with everything you need.

Rooks Cottage is a very clean, well equipped, and welcoming cottage. All the rooms were lovely and the roof terrace an added bonus. The staircase was a bit of a challenge- but got used to it in the end! What a lovely Dales village, great little shop, bakery and pub- The King's Arms - the scenery is amazing too! We had a great week.
