Crooked Cottage is a delightful hidden retreat in the heart of the historic fishing town of Whitby. The cosy living area boasts two comfy sofas the perfect place to relax after a day spent enjoying strolling around Whitby and maybe even braving the 199 steps to reach the Abbey. The modern well-equipped kitchen has an extended breakfast bar with high backed chairs for everyone to share a meal together. On this floor is also a twin bedroom with original cast iron fireplace, added to the charm of this characterful cottage. From the kitchen open the original door and take the steep winding staircase up to the first floor where you will find the thoroughly modern bathroom, fully tiled with a large walk in shower. Here is the master bedroom, with fantastic original beams overhead, beautifully furnished, the ideal place to finish a busy day sightseeing. Outside there is a decked area so you can spend time enjoying the fresh sea air and admiring the collection of jugs hung on the old brick wall.  There is a large shed where chairs for sitting out are stored. Whitby is a very popular seaside town retaining old world character and has lots of events throughout the year. Whatever your interests there is something for everyone in the locality, historic castles, even older abbeys, museums, farms, walking, cycling, superb local markets with the very best Yorkshire produce and of course restaurants and tea rooms too numerous to mention.

The location is brilliant central and plenty of amenities around. There was everything we needed in the cottage plenty of glasses plates etc. The cottage is crooked by name and crooked by nature. A lot of the original features have been kept but a lot of luxuries added. The floors and stairs are quirky and wonky in places but this adds to the cRead moreharm. The courtyard is welcoming at the end of the day to catch any last rays and have a drink. The entrance is through an alley way and contains other holiday cottages. This one is the only one with a secure yard. Perfect for us with a dog. Hide

A lovely quaint cottage close to the beach and some nice shops and pubs. Beware of the steep stairs and limited headroom in the upstairs bedroom: my partner banged his head on the low beam about 10 times during our stay. Not many Take-Away food delivery options but Dominos do deliver. Can recommend Mr Chips for excellent cod and chips
