Slaters Cottage is a quintessential Lakeland cottage which is steeped in history at over 300 years old and is situated in a glorious location in the Little Langdale valley. Perfect for walking in every direction with your holiday party including those four-legged family members. Fantastic fells beckon in all directions with Lingmoor Fell, Pike O'Blisco and Bow Fell to the north whilst to the south explore Wetherlam, Swirl How and the Coniston Fells. This unique cottage is also just 10 minute’s walk from the amazing Cathedral Cave and picturesque Slaters Bridge, from which it takes its name, plus paddling in the Ford at the bottom of the lane for the very young or the young at heart! Then end your day of exploring with great food and drink at the family friendly Three Shires Inn just up the lane or at one of the nearby celebrated eateries, such as The Drunken Duck Inn.

There is something for everyone, come rain or shine, because as an added bonus this cottage provides four complimentary leisure passes for guests at the luxurious Langdale Hotel & Spa in nearby Elterwater. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, gym, hot tub, sauna, steam room - the perfect space to unwind and relax after a day out walking. Bike rental is also available from The Langdale Hotel & Spa, along with tennis court and exercise classes.

This pretty end terraced character cottage offers tranquillity and peace too, with stunning views enjoyed from within the property and from the outside garden area. Totally silent at night with almost no light pollution, it is a wonderful place to star gaze, while by day you are enveloped in the true Lakeland sounds and country atmosphere.

Stepping inside the cottage to the hall, there is the downstairs bathroom with bath and shower over and quality well equipped kitchen with slate floor and underfloor heating, granite surfaces, washer dryer and dishwasher. Across the hall is the cosy open plan dining and sitting room which has a striking stone fireplace with wood burner, oak beams and stripped wooden floors, which is perfect to hunker down in the chillier evenings. There is also a good selection of games, books and guides to enjoy here too. This delightful cottage has lots of original features with oak beams, wooden floors, latch doors, monkey tail window catches and those views. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and the third bedroom is downstairs. All are furnished sympathetically to the age of the property such as wrought iron beds with a style of a bygone era.

Outside, there is a pretty elevated seating area with landscaping making use of local slate, greenery and foliage which are indigenous to the area. There are natural steps up to the seating area, which may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. There is also off-road parking for one car, which is just outside the cottage.

Close by, you have the pretty village of Elterwater, with the welcoming Britannia Inn, surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Langdale Pikes and Great Langdale Valley. Heading north, past Skelwith Bridge, there is another favourite lunchtime stop at Chesters by the river. Beyond is Ambleside with its independent shops and restaurants and along the lake shore you can take a pleasure boat heading down the length of Windermere or try water activities such as Kayaking or Sailing. Equally, you can head to Grasmere, Rydal Water and Wordsworth’s Cottage or to the south, explore the village of Coniston with its local Ruskin Museum, or head to Hill Top, the charming restored home and garden of Beatrice Potter.

Slaters Cottage is a delightful period cottage in an ideal location for exploring Lakeland or equally, leaving the car behind, staying local and enjoying this magical piece of Lakeland heaven. For unforgettable experiences for your entire holiday party, this is absolutely perfect.

A bit scruffy and tired but very cosy and the location trumps any reservations. We loved it.

Lovely location which was a hit with my children as they could play in the Ford. The beds were comfortable and most things we needed were available. It does feel however that the cottage needs a really good spring clean and not just a surface clean. It was great that we could take our dogs but there was no vacuum or long handled brush to clear Read moreup the inevitable dust and fur that dogs make. A bedroom fan would be useful as the front bedroom was very warm even with the windows open. The use of the local spa is an added bonus especially with children. The garden is tiny and not secure for dogs or very young children but the quiet location is a bonus. Hide

Slaters Cottage is in a beautiful location, though beyond that is a basic but cosy cottage. A little more care and attention would bring it up to a higher standard and recycling facilities would be appreciated.

Brilliant location but that is all. Not clean, in poor shape overall and leisure facilities closed for refurb with no advance warning.

It's lovely located cottage with amazing views and its own character and please trust me, I'm not trying to be difficult, but I cannot justify the price we paid with this standard. I'm deeply disappointed with the lack of cleanliness starting from smelly and rooting rug in the bathroom wet from god knows how long (really disgusting). Next, smell ofRead more the fuel in one of the rooms with broken window and "notice not to open". I'm not sure if this is safe, but this should be looked by professional. Next, visit the place yourself and see if oven or kitchen hob are clean. During our stay, owen was very dirty (I mean not cleaned properly for a very long timel), and also drops of the very old oil hanging from the hood (it takes long time to build, so as there for wuite a bit). There is also a black sock under sofa in living room, which was quite disgusting to discover when I dropped something... Cleaning materials access to vacuum etc would be also a great benefit if you would like to improve the overall comfort. Waching machine capsules would also be handy for the cost customers pay so they don't need to think about it during their stay. I truly understand old cottage style and already visited many, I just belive it should be very clean and comfortable for the customers considering business character of the property and its cost to stay. Unfortunately, my review of the property would be a 1.5 star, amazing property, and views, great walks nearby but the positives stop there. This property should not be classed as dog-friendly as my dog was over the wall (was 6 inches so a wall from the road, but not a wall from the garden side) within minutes, not a safe or secure area for dogs to Read morego to the toilet off lead or anything. This property is in a wonderful location in the heart of the Lake District. If you love walking it's ideal as there are many wonderful walks straight from the door. It is also easy to get to nearby Ambleside, Grasmere and Coniston, each with wonderful walking options as well as other attractions.

We had a wonderful stay at Slaters Cottage- the perfect cosy Lakeland retreat! The kitchen is very well equipped with everything we needed. The access road is small but we were fine with a van and it was well worth it for early morning and evening peaceful paddles in the river!
