Southwold is a quintessentially British seaside town located on the stunning Suffolk coastline; famous for its iconic beach huts, towering lighthouse and Adnams brewery. The town is surrounded by water making it almost an island, with one road in and out; it is joined to Walberswick only by an old railway bridge, suitable for walkers and cyclists, which adds to the charm of this historic fishing town. There is a thriving community which keeps the town running; there are markets, craft fairs, street fairs and carnivals held throughout the year, celebrating both the history of the town and the local spirit. The 1600s were a historic era for Southwold; in 1634 the butchers, which still trades today, first opened its doors; in 1659 was the great fire of Southwold which saw much of the town burn to the ground and is the reason the town has its famous ‘Greens’; and 1672 saw the Battle of Solebay, in which both the English and Dutch claimed victory and is celebrated through local anniversary ales and spirits. With dog friendly pubs, footpaths to neighbouring villages, sandy beach, fish and chip shops, three convenience stores, fresh fish from the harbour, crazy golf, an array of restaurants, a brewery and a distillery, you will have plenty to enjoy when you visit this exciting and famous seaside town; just watch out for the seagulls pinching your chips!

Southwold Pier Area - It is often said that nothing changes in Southwold. However, the much-acclaimed pier was rebuilt in 2001 and was the first to be constructed in England in over fifty years. It now fits in well with the painted beach huts, promenade and colourful flowerbeds. There is a shop, cafes and an alternative amusement arcade there. The selection of properties' hereabouts makes it an ideal location to stay in Southwold if you require quiet accommodation that is also close to the beach, town centre and the many footpaths across the marshes leading you to the less explored areas of the town.

Bon Amis is up there as one of the most comfortable properties we have stayed in (abs we have stayed in lots!). The house has a lovely airy vibe about it, and although it is on a fairly busy road, we didnt notice the traffic either in the house or garden. It is around a 7 minute walk to the pier, we didnt use the main road, but rather ambled eitheRead morer down the adjacent North Road, or through the nature reserve. Either way you arrive at the putting green near the pier in a short time. The beach hut was a huge advantage and we loved having our own space near the beach. We met our neighbours in the next hut, who were lovely. Everyone we met was very friendly and happy to stop for a chat, whether residents or holidaymakers. We love Southwold and we have stayed a few times. This is the most comfortable accommodation we have had. The owner was welcoming and checked in with us to make sure all was well. Highly recommended comfortable accommodation for our three generations and dogs in this lovely town. Hide

Bon Amis is an excellent place to stay in Southwold. In terms of location, the beach is about a 5 min walk, local bakeries for breakfast pastries are less than a 10 mins walk, with the local Co-op and Tescos around 10 mins away. There are a selection of pubs all with15 mins walk and even the Anchor at Walberswick, probably the pub furthest from theRead more house can be reached in 35 mins walking. The house itself was very clean and tidy with all the facilities you need and well stocked with kitchen utensils, pots, and pans. The enclosed garden is a real bonus if you have dogs. Parking was very easy on the side road directly outside the gate to the front door. The road was never busy during our stay. Sandra was exceptional. Her communication pre travel was excellent, and the level of supplies available in the property was second to none. Small things made a massive difference such there being sufficient tea, coffee and sugar in the property for more than just our immediate arrival, the same with hand soap, washing up liquid, etc. weve stayed in many holiday cottages and were used to arriving and immediately trying to work out where to go shopping for the immediate essentials (or having to bring those with us). We had a fantastic stay and will be back to Bon Amis on our next trip to Southwold. Hide
