Punch and Judy cottage is a historical quarrymans cottage once owned by a local who worked the Punch and Judy show on Swanage beach. It also has a colourful history where the neighbours recall high profile celebrities such as Cilla black and Tom Jones arriving to have their outfits measured and made in the summer house at the bottom of the garden. A Rolls Royce was a familiar sight! The warm stone walls hold many memories in this house. It was lovingly renovated but the owners husband and son and is much loved, guests love this cottage too.
The cottage door opens to a cosy lounge with velvet chair and chesterfield sofa, the stone walls are exposed and it's the perfect place to unwind in the evenings. Moving through to the kitchen there is a red range cooker and seating for 4, the bathroom leads off down a short passage way. This bathroom has a shower cubicle and a roll top bath.
As a traditional Purbeck cottage it has two sets of stairs, one curving around up to the attic bedroom and one straight leading from the downstairs up to the first floor, as many cottages these stairs need to be born in mind where mobility issues or young children are concerned.
When climbing the first flight of stairs you find the cottages' unique feature, a set of solid wood bi-fold doors which fold back fully onto a sun soaked wooden decked area. Fold back these doors and sit in the lounge to look over the secluded garden. In the summer evenings this is a joy to behold.
Crossing over from the small landing you enter the master bedroom, the king size bed has a view of the Purbeck hills and green fields beyond. From here climb the winding stairs to the attic twin bedroom, a perfect escape for those wanting to rest after a bracing walk.
The cottage garden has seating further down the garden and although the summer house isn't yet available to guests there is seating in front of it.
Punch and Judy cottage is just under a mile from the sea front and the walk down takes you through the old parts of Swanage including the town hall where the frontage was rescued from London 17th century Mercer's Hall in 1883. Further down you will arrive at the cottage's namesake, Punch and Judy show. For those looking for a one of a kind Punch and Judy cottage is a very comfortable fit.
