Property code: OC-MOLEC

This charming holiday cottage tucked away at the end of a private, unmade farm track on a 47-acre farm, in a sunny valley, surrounded by panoramic views, woodlands, a river and rolling pastures. This lovely cottage is perfect for a family or doggie getaway in North Devon.  It is within Exmoor National Park, close to pretty Parracombe village and very close to the coast, with lots of walks, some along some of the highest sea cliffs in the UK, and amazing beaches to discover.

Pack binoculars and wellies because the farm is home to red deer, bats, buzzards, owls and otters.  Exmoor ponies roam the moors.  There are plenty of identification books and kits for you in your cottage.  Build a den, fly a kite or welly walk the river. Footpaths lead from your door to the sea at Heddon’s Mouth or onto the moors, and there are plenty of guide books and maps for you to use.  Beaches, pubs and shops are extremely dog (and child)-friendly!

On the coast are the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth with their world famous cliff-railway linking the two towns, the Valley of the Rocks which is home to a colony of wild goats and Combe Martin with its beach and amazing network of rock pools – great for kayaking too.  Exmoor Zoo, Woody Bay Steam Train, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and Watermouth Castle are all just a short drive away.  Take a fishing boat from Lynmouth or Ilfracombe, a day trip to wonderful Lundy Island nature reserve or surf all day at nearby Woolacombe or Croyde. Cycle the Tarka Trail. There are many more beautiful and historical places of interest nearby – Arlington Court, The Heddon Valley, Dunster Castle to name just a few.  Or admire the Milky Way right here on the farm in Europe’s first International Dark Sky Reserve.

Mole Cottage has a level access from the parking area into the open plan kitchen/living room with lovely views across the valley. Comfy seating surrounds the wood burner which provides a cosy atmosphere in the cooler seasons. Evening entertainment is taken care of with a Smart TV and large collection of DVDs, toys and games available to borrow. The fully-fitted kitchen and dining area comes well-equipped with a farmhouse-style dining table, a gas oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, and a dishwasher. The accommodation also offers three bedrooms; on the ground floor off the kitchen is a twin bedroom which contains single-four poster beds constructed from original grain bins, and an en-suite shower room with WC.  The double and second twin bedrooms can be found on the lower ground floor along with the family bathroom.

There are lots of on-site facilities for you to enjoy including a children’s outdoor picnic/play area with a Wendy house and small climbing frame. In the shared enclosed, grassy courtyard is a shared games barn equipped with table tennis, large & small snooker tables, skittles, croquet and many more toys and games. The courtyard has garden furniture and is perfect for playing outdoor games, picnicking or a quiet read.  There is a fenced orchard/meadow for dogs off lead, with a shared patio area complete with gas BBQ and chiminea, that enjoys spectacular views across the beautiful valley.

Accommodation: Ground floor: Kitchen with dining table, gas oven and hob, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Living area with Smart TV, DVD and wood burner. Selection of books, games and DVDs. What a sweet place, and what kind and hospitable hosts. We loved the calm and quiet of the location, the lay out for us worked as we had a ambulant wheelchair user in our party, and although the shower is not large on the main floor , it perfectly accessible for an ambulatory user. There was essentials like tea, coffee, cleaning products and a bottRead morele of bubbles, which was a thoughtful gift, and a small laundry room on site. We had a guide dog with us, and there was a safe exercise spot for him, he also found a lovely playmate in the owners dog. The property is set over two floors, with a bathroom on each, the lower floor rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable, I slept the best I have done for ages there. Peter and Carey, are exceptionally good hosts, and they have thought of everything, the property is very clean, with a shabby chic/cottage core vibe which makes it very comfortable, and chilled. Pre arrival to the cottage, I would arrange a delivery for when you are there, or do a pre shop, there isnt much locally, but there is a good pub, and small local shop in the village. The only downside is the road in and out of the property, we are in a big WAV, so its a chunky monkey and on a single track road, with limited passing places, it was a bit bumpy and nervey each time in or out, but its a couple of minutes of bumps twice a day, so for us it wasnt a huge problem. But for anyone with epilepsy or sensitivities to a jiggly road, this may not be ideal. Other than that, its a sweet place, ideal if you want to chill out, with a real fire, a glass of something good, curled up with a book (or iPad - the Wi-Fi is good) & your furry friend and family. From the property we accessed several national trust properties, ilfracombe, Barnstaple and Tiverton. The nearest big supermarket was about, 20 mins away I think, which was a Tesco. All in all a thoughtful space, genuinely nice hosts, a clean and welcoming property, quiet, sweet and very chilled. A massive thanks to Peter & Carey, for kindness and hospitality - we would definitely stay again . Hide

A beautiful cottage, off the beaten track but all the better for it. No traffic noises just nature. Wonderful.

A beautiful, well stocked cottage with all the home comforts. We enjoyed the upside down bedrooms and facilities and the farm is peaceful and scenic. The kitchen in the living area was a bonus and there is access to a shared laundry room. But be aware of a long windy downhill road to the cottage! Not for the nervous driver!
