This two-storey stone cottage is perfect for a small family or group of friends and is set just 1 mile outside the popular village of Seahouses, where there are shops, pubs, places to eat, sandy beaches and beautiful walks. Stroll along the coast – a designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and look out for colonies of seals and a variety of bird life (including puffins), or book a boat trip over to the Farne Islands, one of Europe’s most important bird sanctuaries. The coast path is fabulous here, and Bamburgh Castle, the iconic coastal fortress, is just 3 miles away, while the more adventurous may wish to try the 14-mile return hike to Newton-by-the-Sea, which includes a great pub for the mid-walk break. In Seahouses you can also cycle, play golf, ride, fish, surf or even scuba dive – the clear waters offering close-up views of numerous wrecks. A great day trip, meanwhile, is a visit to Alnwick Castle, 14 miles, the second-largest inhabited castle in the country, star of the Harry Potter films.
This converted 19th-century barn is a spacious and welcoming destination with lovely rural and sea views. The cosy lounge has a tiled floor, wood burner and exposed wooden beams, with delightful countryside view over to the Farne Islands. The kitchen/diner has a similarly farmhouse-style feel, with plenty of cupboards and a round dining table. Also on the ground floor is a useful laundry room with storage and a WC. Upstairs, both bedrooms are generously sized, with pitched ceilings, a skylight and exposed beams. One has an en-suite shower room, while the other has use of a large bathroom with a bath, separate shower and sea views.
There is a lawned garden with a patio on the seaward side of the property, with seating to enjoy the fresh Northumbria air.
