Homildon Cottage is a beautiful traditional stone property dating back to the early 1800s, set in the peaceful hamlet of Humbleton near Wooler. Tucked into a quiet hollow on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, it offers character, comfort and an idyllic setting for families, friends and dogs alike.

A bridleway leads directly from the door into the National Park and onto the famous St Cuthbert’s Way, while the spacious rear garden looks out across historic Humbleton Hill. This is a place where wildlife is all around and, after dark, the skies come alive, part of a designated Dark Sky Park, where the only light comes from the moon and stars. Despite the tranquil location, Wooler’s shops, pubs and restaurants are just over a mile away, giving you the best of both worlds.

On arrival we noticed that conservatory and the outside windows need a good as they were very grubby. Inside of the property had dirty carpets that smelt bad, the dishwasher had cutlery left in it, the white tiles behind the toaster/kettle area in the kitchen were filthy. Upstairs the bath had long hair stuck to the tiles and in the plughole, bedrRead moreoom carpet had toenail clippings on it. The duvet and pillows smelt bad, when we looked inside the duvet cover the duvet had bloodstains and other bodily fluid stains on it, one pillow was covered in black dog hairs (we went and bought a new duvet and some pillows) Outside, the summer house is rotting away. The garden was lovely, the kitchen has everything that you need, its just a shame that this property is in such a poor state. The pictures on the website must have been taken when everything was brand new. In my opinion this is Not 5 star luxury and not worth over the 1,300 for a weeks stay. Hide

We enjoyed our stay here very much, a comfortable and well equipped house right beside the gate into the National Park where there are simply lovely walks to be enjoyed. Right at the end of a track, only walkers and runners would pass by the house, so it is a quiet location. Plenty of thought has gone into what is provided, especially in the kitcheRead moren, and thoughtful extra dog towels were available which were needed as the weather was wet and wild for some of our holiday. The welcome pack was thoughtful and a nice surprise. The information about the house was well presented, as were the walks suggestions and what to do while we were there. We have an Aga at home, so it was lovely to be able to enjoy the background warmth provided by it as well as cook on it. We spent a very relaxing quiet week here with outings to Alnwick and Bamburgh but to be honest, we were happy to walk out the door and explore locally with our dog. Hide

The cottage was lovely and everything was very well thought out. The kitchen was very cosy and it was great to have an Aga. It kept the house nice and warm and was lovely to cook on. It was great to have a log burner as well. We used it on two evenings when it was chilly outside and it made the sitting room feel very cheerful. The conservatory was a nice addition - light and airy and good for doing a puzzle and chatting over coffee etc. The bedrooms were very pleasant and the beds most comfortable. I'm sure the garden must be great to sit in during the summer evenings. We really appreciated being able to walk from the doorstep and took our dog round and up Humbleton Hill several times at different times of day. Wonderful views.
