If you don’t know this part of Norfolk you are in for a treat! The Broads National Park is practically on the doorstep of this property, Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Hickling Nature Reserve is at the end of Stubb Road. The nature reserve, a haven for wildlife, is open all year round. During the summer months, book one of the family activities or the daily water trails, and enjoy time away from the world along the marked trails and let the day drift away, don’t forget a picnic. A variety of water based activities including sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding and motor boating are all available at Hickling Staithe. The fabulous east coast beaches are also nearby and often underpopulated even in the summer months. Family friendly with soft sands, the beach at Sea Palling is less than 4 miles away and has been given the prestigious Blue Flag safe beach award this year. Iconic coastal landmarks such as Horsey Windpump and Happisburgh Lighthouse with its candy red and white stripes should not be missed and the resident seal colony at Horsey Gap is about as close to nature as you can get; if you are here in the winter months the new pups can be seen too. A series of quiet lanes that have been designated as rural roads for less traffic, abound in the area, which is great for walkers and cyclists alike and the cultural city of Norwich is worthy of a day’s outing to take in the culture, a bit of retail therapy and so much more.
