This lovely detached house, tucked away behind the main street in this historic Northumbrian coastal village, provides comfortable accommodation and modern amenities including high-speed internet, in a picturesque setting. Warkworth itself is almost completely encircled by the River Coquet, and is dominated by the splendid mediaeval castle perched high on a mound only 200 yards from Rookery Nook Cottage. Half a mile up river is the famous Hermitage, a rock-hewn retreat with a very poignant history; it is quite unique in England and can only be reached by a guided rowing boat.  Being within walking distance of a superb stretch of sandy beach and having some of the most lovely river scenery in the county, it is not surprising that Warkworth is a popular holiday location.  The village is well served by pubs, restaurants and a patisserie, there is also a well-stocked village store and Post Office a short walk from the cottage.  Alnwick, 5 miles to the North, it is home to the Duke of Northumberland and famous for its Castle and garden, open to the public, both have featured in films and television.  Alnwick is also home to Barter Books, a huge second hand bookshop set inside an old Victorian railway station. Amble 2 miles south, has a marina and offers local shops, harbour village, award winning ice cream parlour, fishing trips and weekend markets. Excellent golf is available in Warkworth itself and at several courses along the coast.

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. The hosts had provided a welcome pack and there were basic cooking items provided as well. Garden catches the last sun of the day. Village has two welcoming pubs and a village shop and the gallery is well worth a visit.

Rookery Nook is a lovely house in a quiet location though in the centre of the village. There is a nice garden if you bring your dog. It sleeps five with one bedroom ensuite. There are steps up to the house so it would not be suitable for anyone who has difficulty walking. We would be very happy to return if back in the area. Hide

For a Christmas stay, we found Rookery Nook to be a lovely, warm and cosy little house right in the centre of Warkworth, itself a lovely village in a beautiful part of Northumberland. The house was well-equipped, clean and everything worked well. Given the short days of winter etc, we didn't make use of the small back garden but went out every day Read morefor walks and outings. But it would be nice to sit there in warmer weather, I'm sure. Great to be so close to the castle, the river, local pubs and restaurants, the church and walks to the beach or down to Amble. But it was also quiet, we were not disturbed by neighbours or traffic at all. Hide

This was our second visit to Rookery Nook having done a week in 2023 too. We loved it so much we booked it again as soon as the calendar opened up. Beautifully peaceful and so quiet, even though it is right in the middle of the bustling village. The house has everything you could possibly need and the outside space is pleasant. Perfectly situateRead mored for just wandering around Warkworth or down to Amble, beautiful beach and plenty of options to eat out if you don't fancy cooking. Equally a great location to use as a base while you explore Northumberland. I would highly recommend and it's great value for money. Hide

Great location, just a bit tricky with the on street parking as to whether we would find a space each time. Lovely view from the back bedroom window. The back garden has quite steep steps that were a challenge to our elderly terrier but he soon found a place to rest on the sunny grass. Lovely spacious cottage with lots of natural light. Really well equipped with everything we needed. Super location just set back from main street. The enclosed garden was a great space for our dog to sniff about and play. Would highly recommend and definitely return. Thanks for helping make a great holiday in Warkworth.

We had a great week at Rookery Nook in Warkworth. Perfectly placed for access to all the village has to offer and a great base for all that Northumberland has to offer. Lots of character with all the modern conveniences that you need. My only little note to future dwellers would be take a spare set of towels as you only get one set for the week.Read more Other than that, it's spot on & we will most definitely be booking again! Rookery Nook was lovely, a bit tired looking, damp making ingress in the front bedroom, above the window. Some cobwebs which had been there awhile. Parking on the street by luck. But generally a lovely place, though not for someone with accessibility issues.
