  • Get away from it all in this remote cottage in Northumberland National Park
  • Enjoy spectacular star gazing from the property, within a designated Dark Sky Park
  • A great base for wildlife watching, including peregrine falcons, deer, buzzards, and red squirrels

Property code: OC-NB489

The former College Valley School has been lovingly renovated to accommodate four people. The property is fully central heated and carpeted throughout. Outside there is a private enclosed garden (dog proof) with expansive views up the valley to Cheviot. The cottage has a garage and there is plenty of parking space. Dogs are allowed on the hard floored areas in the house. The College Valley is an exceptional place, a magical hidden gem in today's world, once seen never forgotten; twelve cars are granted permits to use the private road system each day so traffic is unlikely to be a problem. The cottages are literally sitting on the foot of the Cheviot Massif in the National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. At night the only light is from the stars and moon. Northumberland National Park Authority, Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust and Kielder Observatory Astronomical Society were awarded the title of Northumberland Dark Sky Park in December 2013, making Northumberland, Europe's largest Dark Sky Park. There are wild goats, deer, peregrine, buzzards, ravens, kestrels and many others. If you are quiet you may be lucky enough to see one of the most charming residents, the red squirrel. This is a perfect spot for all the countryside has to offer; walking, fishing, golfing, riding, cycling, bird-watching, historic houses, gardens, churches and castles or for driving the short distance to the coast where there are beautiful beaches, Holy Island and trips to the Farne Islands. Wooler is 10 miles, the village is friendly and offers a wide range of shops selling locally produced meat, bread and vegetables. There are several good pubs and restaurants in the area, nearest bar/restaurant 8 miles.

Can be booked with code 317 Coldburn Cottage, 344 Dunsdale House and 396 Hethpool Mill.

BOOKINGS CAN START ON ANY DAY OF THE WEEK AND LEAVE ANY DAY WITH A MINIMUM LET OF 3 NIGHTS.

The cottage was exceptionally clean when we arrived. and is in the perfect situation, with a fenced garden so Molly the poodle didn't stray. It is so peaceful there, and apart from aything the bed is HUGE - not unimportant when, like me, your'e 6' 4"! The local town of Wooler is a mile or two away, and on the few occasions when we visited we diRead moredn't have any trouble parking conveniently. Our only regret is that we didn't find it before - we have holidayed in Northumberland several times and have been going to Glen Afric in Scotland since the 1980s, but the College Valley is now our favorite - we are alreadt talking about staying at the School House again! I did not expecting to have to remove the rubbish from the property and take it to a skip, more than a mile away, in my vehicle. Also I did not realise that I had to strip the beds before leaving the property. However, the property and, in particular the location, were very good.

We loved it! We are active early 70s and the cottage was perfect for us (made me want to downsize!). It was so welcoming and so clean. The bed, the bed linen and towels good quality, everything worked in the kitchen, fridge a good size, really perfect if you were self catering.

We have been holidaying with our friends for 30yrs, we all thought this was the most comfortable and best equipped cottage we have stayed in, ever. The location is just stunning with walks from the door. If your looking for a complete getaway from it all, this is the place we would recommend. We will definitely be back to College Valley.
