Families or groups can have a truly tranquil getaway at this authentic cottage that’s surrounded by countryside with resident goats and hens. Located approximately midway along Hadrian’s Wall, you’ll have history and scenic walks right on your doorstep including the nearby Roman forts of Housesteads (8 miles), Vindolanda (6.5 miles) and Birdoswald (7 miles). The holiday home’s owner can provide a drop-off and pick-up service along Hadrian’s Wall so you can thoroughly explore the area; and with Northumberland National Park 11 miles away, there are plenty more opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Visit Haltwhistle (0.5 miles), a picturesque market town in the South Tyne Valley where you can while away hours in the local pubs and cafes, spot wildlife or try pony trekking. Or, for a dose of modern city life, take a day trip to Carlisle (20 miles) where there are plenty of museums, restaurants and shops.

Make yourself at home in the ground-floor, open-plan living space where the carpeted sitting room is traditionally styled with classic patterned sofas, a feature wall, a TV and DVD player, and a wood burner nestled in the corner. An original archway with glazed doors leads from the sitting area to the patio. The kitchen is beside a round dining table for four. On the first floor, there’s a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom at the top of the stairs with a bi-fold door. The bathroom features a shower over the bath.

Outside, you’ll find an enclosed, paved patio area that’s shared with the neighbouring properties. It benefits from a picnic table and a BBQ. There’s also an enclosed woodland area to exercise pets.

This is my second visit as the first time made a big impression. The cottage is a perfect place to stay and see the best of Northumberland. It is clean and comfortable with an exceptionally friendly and helpful owner. I hope to return someday which is the best recommendation I can give.

We stayed with our 2 children and dog. Susan is a wonderful host and let my daughter feed the animals daily (2 emus, a goat, ducks and chickens- heaven for my animal obsessed daughter). The cottage is well situated for exploring Hadrians wall and other Roman sites (Vindolanda is less than 10 minutes away by car). Corbridge and Hexham are both 20-25Read more minutes drives away and the local village of Haltwhistle has some fabulous dog friendly cafes and pubs, plus handy local shops. The welcome shortbread and cupcakes were a lovely touch. Hide

Sue, the owner was really friendly and approachable and took time to come over and speak to us every day. She made some useful suggestions on things to do and places to visit and clearly wanted us to feel comfortable staying at her little farm. The cottage itself was in a good central location and represented great value for money.
