This quirky cottage in Snape is the perfect location for a family holiday as a popular town on the banks of the River Alde. Here, you’re surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and just over a mile from Snape Maltings with its fantastic Victorian buildings, independent shops and galleries as well as a range of places to eat and drink. There’s also a retail complex here as well as the world-renowned Snape Maltings Concert Hall. All around the property guests can easily explore the tidal estuary and network of footpaths straight from the door and throughout the year, boat trips run from the quayside and there’s also the Aldeburgh festival every year in June. The coastline of Aldeburgh itself is just 5 miles away with its iconic sculpture ‘The Scallop’ on the beach, as well as having North Warren RSPB Reserve, nearby so wildlife watchers will be in their element.

Inside, this detached home has its accommodation spaced over two floors. On the ground floor, the sitting room is a welcoming space with a sofa and armchair arranged around a cosy inglenook wood burner within a large brick surround. There’s also a separate dining room with a second wood burner, wood-beamed ceiling and a table that can sit up to four people. The kitchen, with a further table and chairs for four, is well equipped and has everything you could need to whip up a meal on nights when you fancy eating in. There’s also a handy local map on the wall making planning your walks and visits easy. The family bathroom is also on this floor with a shower over the bath, as well as a separate cloakroom with WC. The bedrooms upstairs are accessed via two different steep staircases. The master double bedroom and a pretty twin (bedrooms one and two) are accessed from the sitting room, whilst bedrooms three and four, two small doubles which are both best suited to a single person are accessed via the staircase from the dining room. The cottage bedrooms are inter-connected so bedroom two is reached through bedroom one and bedroom four is reached through bedroom three. There is also a connecting door between bedrooms two and three.

Outside, the large garden is laid mainly on the lawn with a picnic table and separate table and chairs so guests can enjoy long lazy days outside.

If you’re planning to pack your walking boots, be sure to walk the Sailor’s Path along the River Alde to the Suffolk coast at Aldeburgh. Follow in the footsteps of the fishermen, who, at low tide were forced to leave their boats on the mud flats and head home on foot.

This is a lovely cottage in a peaceful location in Snape. Within walking distance of two pubs, and almost backing on to the estuary which was beautiful. The only points to note were the very steep spiral staircases and one downstairs bathroom which made nighttime toilet visits a little perilous. The cottage was excellent for our group of four but for a group of 8 the toilet and bathroom might be a bit of a problem. We spent a long time speculating on the original shape and structure of the house which added to our enjoyment of the stay. Nearest pub was excellent and the weather was brilliant.

Cosy, quirky cottage. Great location for visiting Snape Maltings, walking, local towns, beaches etc. Very quiet location and within easy walking distance of 2 pubs. Eateries at maltings are also walkable. The cottage has a good collection of maps for planning walks. We had a lovely week.
