Quietly located in one of the colourful lanes of the picturesque fishing village of Appledore.  This cosy character cottage is less than 200 yards from the Quay overlooking the Torridge Estuary and with views across the water to the beach and watersports centre of Instow.

Whimbrel Cottage offers a wonderful home from home with many original features including low beams, sloping ceilings and narrow steep stairs.  On the ground floor a small porch leads directly into an attractive beamed living room with a woodburner in an inglenook providing a cosy focal point.  An inner hallway leads into the kitchen/diner where meals can be taken either inside or in the small and pretty walled courtyard that leads off.  On the first floor there is an attractive double room at the front of the property, a twin room at the rear and a family bathroom.

The cottage was lovely and welcoming. The host had laid out an Easter basket for our arrival, which was very thoughtful. We enjoyed sitting by the log burner in the evenings and there are lovely walks, restaurants and local shops all very close by. Great spots for our kids to go crabbing and rock pooling too. We did hear the neighbours a few timeRead mores, but I think that there was just a particularly loud family there for a few days, the second half of the week we didn't hear much at all. The cottage was well equipped, good value and we had a very comfortable and pleasant stay. Hide

A cute cottage although possibly a squeeze for a family of 4. Lovely location in the heart of Appledore but no car access so prepare for tricky unloading and loading (although this seems to be normal for Appledore). Dcor a little tired in places but comfortable. Be prepared to hear your neighbours moving about.

Whimbrel is in a good position, and the upstairs of the cottage is clean and comfortable. There is plenty storage. Downstairs both the living room and kitchen are in need of a refurbishment both in terms of decor and furnishings. The kitchen is needing replaced. There is an unpleasant smell, which may be due to dampness, particularly in the liviRead moreng room. Hide

Fabulous little cottage, very comfy and clean. We were lucky to arrive for the RNLI celebrations, the Appledore brass band was amazing, as were the singing group. Lots of seating on the promenade was a big plus to relax and read in the sunshine. Could have spent a fortune in the craft gallery! Gorgeous locally made selection of gifts.
