Property code: OC-ROCKRO

Rock Rose Cottage is situated in the heart of the popular fishing village of Appledore just a stroll from the busy quay side and close to all amenities including family friendly pubs, cafes and a variety of shops and craft galleries selling locally made products.  Famous for its narrow, colourful streets Appledore enjoys an assortment of festivals throughout the year and during the summer season the local brass band entertains crowds on the quay.

This delightful terrace cottage has been recently renovated to a high standard. Its clean, crisp contemporary design is pleasing on the eye, with brand new fixtures and fittings and ample natural light giving the whole property a light and bright feel. Much of the original character remains throughout the 3 floors, with the main access being on the middle floor leading into the dining room which has table seating for 6. The open plan, newly fitted kitchen has plenty of work space and storage whilst the adjoining living area has comfortable seating from which to enjoy the wonderful views from the floor to ceiling windows. French doors open out to a Juliet balcony taking in the picturesque scene of boats and water sports along the estuary. Steep, narrow stairs from the hallway lead up to two bedrooms, (one with estuary views) and a family bathroom.  From the living room a more modern staircase leads down to the lower ground floor comprising master double room with en-suite shower and French doors leading from the bedroom out to the delightful courtyard with raised decked area from which to sit and enjoy the views across the estuary(Care should be taken with young children due to low wall). Access to the garden is also available via a separate doorway off the lower ground floor hall.

The cottage is ideally situated for accessing local amenities or simply enjoying a stroll around the village taking in the sights and sounds. During the summer a small foot ferry takes passengers across the estuary to the small village of Instow with its beach and further choice of eateries including an award winning tea shop with adjoining deli selling a good selection of homemade and locally produced goods.   A short car journey takes you to the two larger towns of Bideford and Barnstaple whilst family attractions such as The Big Sheep and The Milky Way and the sandy, surfing beach of Westward Ho! are also close by.

We had a wonderful family holiday here at Easter. Despite not having the best weather we loved having cosy afternoons in enjoying the beautiful view and out exploring local sights. The cottage had everything we could have needed, excellently located in appledore right on the estuary and all the home comforts to make it a great stay. We will definRead moreitely be back! We had 4 fabulous days in the Cottage and we loved every minute of it. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised to find a welcome pack - milk, coffee, cakes, scones with jam and clotted cream - this was a lovely gesture and very much enjoyed, thank you! The cottage itself is perfectly located - only a few minutes walk to restaurants, cafes, shops aRead morend even less to the sea front. The cottage has been finished to a high standard and it is very spacious, perfect for our family of 4 and one dog. The view is amazing! We spent a lot of time relaxing whilst looking out to sea. Rock Rose Cottage is very well appointed, clean, tidy and nicely refurbished. Lots of useful space, to suit a family or sets of friends. There is a very pleasant courtyard to the rear which I'm sure is beautiful to sit in during the summer. (We visited in December). The property is set over three floors, and some may find the stairs steep, so bearRead more this in mind when making your selection. The lounge is light and bright, with the most tremendous view, a big reason why we book on this side of Irsha Street. All three bedrooms have lots of storage, both bathrooms are modern and the dining room to the front of the property is snug with lots of room for six to sit around the table. The kitchen wants for nothing and there is another table here, but the chairs are high which some may find difficult. There is no parking at the property, but two car parks are nearby, and use the RingGo app which works well, and is a reasonable price. Irsha Street is very narrow, so if you offload your vehicle outside, be prepared to move on so as not to hold others up. There are two pubs further along, so expect delivery drivers to need access. Although the web site gives a very honest, clear and detailed description of both the cottage and the facilities offered, we found that in all areas the real thing exceeded our expectations in every way. Not only were all our needs catered for, but the whole experience was idyllic. We look forward to visiting again.
